  1. I am Dutch, 58 years old. I remember this was sort of used as an excuse when we were taught about it in school. In general the Dutch role was tiptoed around, we never got a good understanding of Dutch colonialism in school. But the Japanese role was stressed as bad. Like, we weren't that bad, they should have been happy with us occupying them, look what they got in return for their ungrateful rebelion!
