I wonder if it would make much difference. If people were given a menu allowing them to select their stories of choice, I would expect them to pick the same stories. They like getting worked up and feeling righteous about it. Facebook will figure out what you want to see alright. But that is merely a convenience, to make it as easy as possible for you. People would find other ways to get to their fixes.
