  2. It is their purpose, they report on the damage done by the Trump movement. In a mocking manner. It is a format. Much like Trump himself speaks in one format: raise himself by pissing down on who ever. He is babbling because he is milking the moment, he finally has a big audience again and wants it to last. He cannot just answer a question in a neutral or positive way, he has to package it in this "I know better, my enemies are fools or bad people"-box. That resonates with disgruntled folks. He is probably not doing it consciously but it is the same thing, just targeted at different audiences.
