Adesanya, Usman and Ngannou are indigenous Africans who migrated from their countries to get opportunities that were not available in their respective countries. Du Plessis comes from the lineage of Apartheid beneficiaries who have controlled the wealth in South Africa for decades and also is from a nation that has had a thriving MMA scene for years. If he had grown up in any other African nation like Nigeria, Cameroon, Benin, Senegal etc he would've had to migrate like Ngannou did. It is incredibly disingenuous to leave out this information but you're doing so because you know you're wrong and want to try and force this narrative. By your logic, Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov aren't Dagestani Russian champions as they train at AKA. Anderson Silva isn't a Brazilian champion as he lived in the USA. Wanderlei Silva wasn't a champion as he lived in the US. Valentina Shevshenko isn't Russian because she trained and lived in Peru. Your logic is ridiculously flawed and is only used to try and undermine actual African champions that won already won the belt. @czur3688 They left Africa because there is no MMA infrastructure in their respective countries. Stop being disingenuous when you clearly know the reason why. It was necessity and an economical decision to do that because they didn't have the resources to accomplish the same goal in their homeland. If Ngannou could've trained combat sports in Cameroon and made it professional from there, he would've stayed there. Du Plessis comes from the most developed country in the African continent and one of the top 3 wealthiest. He comes from a country which has had a thriving MMA infrastructure for over a decade. If he had grown up in Cameroon or Nigeria he would've had to migrate abroad to become a MMA fighter. Stop ignoring this key information. Secondly, the man himself even used to train abroad in Thailand during his early twenties, so don't talk as if he's never been out of South Africa to hone his skills. You can try and argue but you won't win this exchange.

He's an African because he's a Yoruba man that was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria to two Yoruba parents. His entire ancestry, lineage, culture, language and history is African. He has the DNA of an African and embodies everything about being an African. He was not only born there but also schooled and has a historical connection to the land. So yes, he is an African in every sense of the word. Once again for your 🫛 brain, your identity has NOTHING to do with your career. By that logic, a person who was born and raised in Nigeria for 20 years and then decides to move abroad to study medicine and becomes a doctor and practices in Russia is now a Russian? You had to specify "heavyweight" because you know that the first African boxing world champion was actually Senegalese Battling Siki a.k.a Louis Mbarick Fall, who beat Frenchman George Carpentier in 1922 to become the Light Heavyweight champion. You tried though. This is what you people do. Always try to rewrite history and wash away the accomplishments of native Africans.

He isn't a "real African" anymore than the three actual African champions that have all held the titles in their respective weight classes. "First REAL African champion." A real African wouldn't answer a French name, speaking a bootleg Dutch vernacular language and have ancestors that were living in France just a few hundred years ago. But go off son.
