@slickrick8046 "People have been making those predictions for decades.." Correct. People have been making these predictions not just for decades, but probably for almost a century as we approach the centennial of the Great Depression of 1929-39. The difference is that we live in a very global environment today.
"To get a better economic opportunities" would be an understatement of what I mean. It's not just economics but more holistic than that.
"Also, if the United States falls…the world suffers". Well, time will tell. But countries around the world already take a measure to some degree regarding about it. We could see that the BRICS have started trading in their own currencies, and countries like China have started hoarding gold which has driven the recent price surge, just named a few example.
"Which countries are you telling your boys to move to…?" I would consider moving them to East Asia or Southeast Asia. My IT business is international in scope, which gives me the opportunity to see the growth of many countries around the world. My twins are in their early years of college, both majoring in computer science. As far as I can see and remember, the US has lagged behind in this subject for about two to three decades. The recently announced Chip-Act will not immediately turn things around, in part because the field has so many supply chain interdependencies that do not exist in the US today. So moving my twins to the computer science epicenter of East Asia makes sense because it will give them a comparative advantage to compete internationally when they are at their prime in the next 2-3 decades.
As I noted earlier, we live in a very globalized world today. My extended family is spread all over the world. Some live in Western Europe, some in East and Southeast Asia, a few in other parts of the world. From my perspective, it would be like moving them to another district in the city. Not even a different city or state. Whether they will retain their US Citizenship, that will be up to them. They just need to know that their mom and dad will always be there for them wherever they are. Thanks to globalization and the internet that makes that possible.
