Tgey had to pay the juzia tax which was very high so over time people preferred to convert to Islam to avoid jizia and become first class citizens. Muhammad used to trade in slave. Islam is the only relugion which made slavery legal. Also Islam allowed muslim men to marry 4 wives and they could have sex with as many slave women as they wanted. He also promised his followers 72 virgins in zannat. No other religion gives this incentive. I suppose Saudi Arabia was a desert and sex was the only form of entertainment for men.
