People who fly very often and live near a United hub. I don't like what happened but I am not sure if this really damages United Airlines in the long run. Airlines reward loyalty.

Ryanair doesn't overbook because it is a point to point airline, it doesn't do transits and you can't cancel a flight or change a flight once you have booked. These policies make it possible to really 100% fill a plane. Same with JetBlue.

A point to point flying system is much easier and that makes Ryanair's flights very cheap, traditional airlines have to compete with airlines like Ryanair and therefore they overbook flights to be able to compete with the low prices of airlines like Ryanair. It is a risky game but they play it. Passengers really care about price. The problem is that only point to point airlines is not enough, we need also airlines that offer the possibility to transit.

I think that JetBlue does mainly do point to point flying (afaik), that makes things a lot easier for an airline.

Business is indeed about money.
3
United Airlines should indeed have made better offers, not just coupons with complex terms and conditions.
3
Why don't you start an airline if you can do it so much better? I wish you good luck!!

The airlines of course do have a disincentive against overbooking, they need to pay compensation to the people who get bumped. The people who volunteer need to be compensated too and these volunteers can negotiate a higher compensation. The airlines use a statistical approach to determine how many overbookings they do. Yes indeed, that is a risky game. If airlines are no longer allowed to play this game then I am pretty sure that ticket prices will go up. Ryanair doesn't do transits and you can't cancel or change flights, therefore Ryanair can determine very well how many passengers will fly with a certain flight. That makes life very easy for Ryanair. The title of this video is "why airlines sell more seats than they have", it is not only about this United incident.
2
I think it is still a business transaction because you get a compensation if you are bumped. But feel free to start a new airline.

"Oh you are from Denmark/America/France/Spain/Poland/Chili/.......Such a nice country!! I have special price for you!!"

Many airports (for example Heathrow) are over congested, therefore a bank system is hard to implement.
2
There are rolling hubs and banked hubs. Bank can mean "a row of similar things, especially machines or parts of machines".
2
That probably means that Swiss people want to pay a bit more to get better service.

Feel free to come up with a better explanation.

It is easy to say that airlines are all so horrible but more and more people fly multiple times per year because of cheap prices. Many people nowadays belong to the jetset. People really love cheap tickets.
1
This system is not new, this system is what shareholders want and passengers want cheap prices.
1
"Anything to make a dollar" seems extremely professional to me.
1
Companies have a duty towards their shareholders to make a dollar or even more than one dollar if possible. That is why airlines overbook.
1
I think that airlines have done the math. People deeply care about price. We will see if people will really boycott united for a long time because of this.
1
Maybe you can ask The Donald about that? Okay, maybe not.
1
Feel free to say it anyway.

More and more people fly multiple times per year because of cheap flights. People really care about the price of tickets. I don't think that you can put all the blame on the airlines, we the passengers are also a bit guilty because of our love for cheap tickets.
1
It is but it is not privately owned.

The Ural mountains is more or less a random border. In the past also the Don river was defined as the border between Europe and Asia. "Do the people of Moscow consider themselves to be Europeans?" That question deeply matters.
1
I have never been there but I have read that sometimes planes are grounded because it is too hot.
1
But what if the company pays?
1
Have you flown with KLM?
1
Isn't that an exception? I mean how often is that possible?
1
There is also London Southend airport, so London has 6 airports.
1
I often buy a book or a magazine at the airport.
1
They can and they probably will but it will cost something like 20 billion $ or so.
1
It is time for a hyperloop connection between London and NYC.
1
Yes, London City airport: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_City_Airport
1
I think that Heathrow is the busiest privately owner airport in the world.

How many people still speak the Manchu language?
