We have to keep animals out in fields, and be less dependent upon them using feed stocks.

1:00 - “why” The problem is transportation. Food can not safely & efficiently be brought to where it is needed. This is usually do to war & revolutions. 1:20 - “agricultural land… pasture… crops” This is a fairly simplistic perspective, simplistic to a fault. Often, pasture lands are not suitable for crops, so pasture land uses animals to harvest grass from less fertile & less desirable land. Animals fertilize the less desirable land, organically, and will eventually help to make less arable land more fertile. Also, animals are basically walking refrigerators. The food is walking around & harvested when they are needed. Compare this to fresh food, which requires refrigerators & will spoil if not consumed fairly soon, animals are a huge benefit to medium term food viability.

@jerryinmon2731 - you are 100% right… and the talking points from The Left Coast have no idea 🤷‍♀️ what is happening in the Mid-West. They don’t even know how to handle their own drought problem. (Honestly, they do, they tax people to build reservoirs, but don’t have the intestinal fortitude to actually collect the water 💧 they have, which flows to the sea 🌊, then they steal water from the other side of the Rocky Mountains & dry out the interior of the continent to create more food problems for North America.)

⁠ @filonin2 - “think they don’t add…” Just because they add something does not mean you actually receive what they think you are adding. Every so often, hundreds of babies are dying because infant formula had a precursor added, which was not quite right. The reason prescription drugs are so expensive is that they are tested for contamination & precursor accuracy. Less so for OTC & even less so for supplements (OTC drugs & supplement can’t afford to keep the price range once they add rigorous contaminant & precursor accuracy testing.) Food is cheap & grown in relatively diverse environments… so people not getting nutrients in one batch of apples 🍏 from Washington, may get them in a batch of pears from Maine next week. Once we move to factory 🏭 food production, diversity safety nets are reduced.

Just a nuclear weapon blown up in the sky, no where near the surface of the earth. “farmers… 1000 miles away… cows or not” In an electrified society, the one who has milk to drink in the day, cheese to provide protein on demand at night, cows provide locomotion to farm fields, till soil, plant, and harvest. Cows provide locomotion to move things. Cows, themselves are a mobile food source, walking refrigerators. Everyone else has nothing. Everyone else is screwed.
