I thought the thin aluminum was a fire hazard. An ocean going vessel from Europe, carrying electric cars, recently sank due to a fire onboard. I believe there were some VW’s onboard. Batteries must be respected.

I just bought 2x of the 8s4p modules. Easy.
2
It holds different battery configurations, for different distance options, as well as different power configuration for 2x wheel & 4x wheel drive The battery box can hold more batteries, if the consumer wants to spend more to drive longer & use more power

Did you ever find out?

A burned out fuse is likely a much larger problem that requires reviewing individual components.

I have 2x of the “8S4P” modules Do you know where to get the wiring harness for the modules???
1
@koeniglicher - this is exactly what I needed - thanks!
1
The bricks come in different sizes, to give different distances & differentiate power requirements for rear wheel and 4x wheel drive… the battery box accommodates all the configurations

@ch4.hayabusa - Ford was by no means “waiting for this to go away” for the past “5-10 years.” Ford was one of the first auto manufacturers to release a hybrid SUV. That was almost 2x decades ago! Over a half decade ago, they released fleets of plug in hybrids. The car magazines just refused to write about them, saying that they existed, but that was it! LOL! The current li-ion chemistry is dangerous, does not recycle as easily as lead acid, and may be replaced with heavier (but safer) LiFePo4. There are other options out there, as well.
1
“come into the electric car business very late” Ford has been making hybrid SUV’s for nearly 20 years and plug in hybrid SUV’s for nearly 15 years
1
Ford offers larger batteries for greater mileage as well as an additional 4 wheel drive mode. The battery box holds batteries to cover all configurations.
1
Any idea what the harness connectors that go onto these batteries? I may have 2x of these modules, trying to find a wiring harness connector, so I can add a BMS
1
Gotta go somewhere, and keep wires as short as possible
1
Ford has been doing this for about 2 decades, when they released the first hybrid SUV that the world had ever seen.

@bobh9492 - not sure what u mean. There has never been anything exciting about electric vehicles. It’s a car.
1
“That is frankly insane” I just got my first two recycled modules… enough power to run a whole house UPS, using off the shelf components.
1
I just picked up 2x 8s4p packs from them, likely from this car model. I need to find the two harnesses per battery now…
1
I have a pair of modules in my trunk right now, carrying them around to find various components to mount & use them… they are quite safe, if you don’t short out the cells by accidentally drilling a hole through them! LOL!
1
I bought 2x recycled batteries, specifically for this reason. Now looking for harnesses.

Hit a pot hole, a curb, drive off a curb in the dark… the body of the car flexes a little bit. If a large battery that snaps together flexes, that could cause sparks & a fire. While desirable, this could be a difficult engineering situation.
1
“It will only for a Mach-E” No, the modules can be used in various Ford cars & usages, by merely putting the modules into various battery box designs.
1
Cars flex when they hit a pot hole, curb, etc. Probably not a good idea to snap large & heavy batteries to a rigid rail. Weaken those connections, fires can start.
1
There are different battery configurations, which fit in the same battery box. Some for different distances, some for 2x wheel drive, others for 4x wheel drives. Add more batteries, more space consumed.
1
There are different pack configurations, to supply different distance requirements as well as battery configures for 2x & 4x wheel drive
1
@markplott4820 - Ford leased the first hybrid SUV almost 20 years ago, the plug in hybrid about 15 years ago. Ford has been doing this a long time.
1
Likely LG

“If Ford came out with this 5 - 10 years ago” Ford came out with the first Hybrid SUV, nearly 20 years ago, then the first plug in hybrid SUV around 15 years ago. I almost bought a used plug in hybrid from Ford about 6 years ago. The newer ICE engines were so reasonably fuel efficient, I would have made the jump if the car was only $1k-$2k less.
