  2. They're not (generally) doing fraud, nor even junk-science. So the traditional methods of correcting science do not work. You may say that data homogenization in climate science is "fraud" but they don't see it that way. Instead they think they're "improving" science. The same kind of data tampering happens in particle physics too: nearly all the data is filtered out - based on obscure criteria. From the remaining "signal" they make their particle physics.
