  1. Marx absolutely underestimated the state and its innate tendency towards authoritarianism. In Marx's time, the 19th century: state powers and duties were limited - basically to war, policing, law. Marx never forsaw that the state is a power for itself. When Marxists sieze the state apparatus, they remove all the brakes on state power when they abolish civil society; which they will inevitably do; as they believe all civil society is a capitalist conspiracy to limit their power and to stop the revolution. Marx clearly got his ridiculously optimistic view of the state straight from Hegel. Marx's notion that, under communism the state would wither away is so fanciful it has to be one of the biggest speculative blunders of all time.
