  1. Liberal democracy - isn't so much an idea or set of ideas. It is a set of compromises. For example - the compromise between science and faith - the Peace of Westphalia - which was a compromise between faiths There is ALWAYS conflict; it's intrinsic to human relationships. Liberal democracy was an attempt to deal with everlasting dispute by establishing frameworks for that: voting & representative democracy, political rights, debate, free-speech, religious toleration, ... The Crisis of Authority is the elites reneging on previous agreements.

  2. The first rule of power, authority, and legitimacy is: never admit you have doubts. It's not so much that they're blind and mindless - more the case that being in power makes them look that way.

  3. Does Martin also explain: - critical race theory - transing gaslight - climate 'crisis' - COVID scam? If not, I think a third edition is in order. Nostalgia - I'm just nostalgic for the days when the left were vaguely rational. The right have always been about power, top-down, and 'consensus'.
