"Progress" was pwned by US Democrats. So I think we can say that "progress" is woke, rather than woke is progressive. It's such a compromised word; an entire catalogue of, literally, reactionary ideas were branded progressive by the Dems. Instead, realists should talk of advancement, or improvement.

The Enlightenment abolished slavery - not Christianity.

@aristocraticrebel The Enlightenment was not any kind of Christianity.

@aristocraticrebel "secularizing Christian slave morality" <- I recognize no such project among Enlightenment thinkers. There were Enlightenment projects to: 1. overthrow Christian Natural Law beliefs (by showing they were evidentially wrong) 2. imagine societies ruled by competence, not aristocrats. 3. end intolerance (such as the 30 Years War - which killed 8 million people in a war of religious intolerance) 4. advance learning. Which of those projects (1 - 4) did you think were bad?

But the Enlightenment was a neo-Christian movement. In particular Enlightenment's universalism - on which rested human rights, free-speech, universal enfranchisement (to vote). Universalism began as a Christian idea. The Enlightenment inherited it.

I read one of Holland's history books: Rubicon, and thought it good. Nominally, Holland, and historians are grounded in facts. Based? Yet listening to Holland talk about a global environment "collapse" is weird. Environments have rarely been as healthy in the past as they are now. I wish Holland took the same factual, evidenced based, approach to the environment as he does with the history!
