  1. He said : "diflurodichloro methane", but he meant: Dichlorodifluoromethane. It has the formula: C.Cl2.F2 , which has a molecular weight = 121; which is 4 times heavier than air (MWt = 30). Note: Cl = 35.5, F = 19, C = 12. C.Cl2.F2 = 12 + 2×35.5 + 2×19 = 121 So the freon is not a "light gas" as the presenter said. It is relatively heavy. Nor do freons cause a hole in the ozone. There was never enough freon in the atmosphere to do that and it could never have risen to such high altitudes in sufficient quantity. Furthermore - far more chlorine is released naturally into the atmosphere (from the sea & volcanoes) than freon (millions of tonnes of Cl2 per year !). Chlorine is a lighter gas (MWt = 70) and chlorine is just as "harmful" to ozone; in that it catalyses the decomposition of ozone in a free-radical reaction; just like he "evil" freon is theorised to.
