  1. 1. Build some full-scale applications. You can put them on your CV. They can be web apps, mobile apps, or even desktop apps. If in doubt build mobile apps. 2. Go out and meet other developers. You can meet them at conferences (some of which can be very cheap, especially the geek cons). Or you can meet them at technical evening talks (found via meetup.com). They will give you advice. 3. Some companies will recruit you based on a programming test they give you or a small number of programming problems you solve. You can entirely by-pass recruitment agents doing this. They will take you on based on what you can actually do. 4. You can apply for any junior programmer position in the world too based on your primary programming skill alone.
