@fatmonkey4306 When I read 1984, long ago, I pondered whether there was an actual war going on. It occurred to me that, to Big Brother, the purpose of the war - to enable authoritarian rule - was more impotant than the war itself.

The take I got from 1984 was the "three empires at war" may not even be at war! After all, how do we know they are at war? The message I took was: "enemies may be fabricated by elites to keep their own populations in line, through fear and misinformation." For example: much like the COVID-19 enemy was fabricated as an existential threat. So I find it fascinating that you see it entirely differently to me, as: "Each side might even want to be less authoritarian but they fear it would hive their enemy an opening to destroy them".

"groups of humans will always resort to the most extreme means possible to retain their superiority over others" <- hyperbole? I find groups of humans will resort to the most convenient, and pragmatic means. Not the most extreme. Extreme means are only attempted when less extreme methods have failed.

So we learnt one lesson from 1984 - anti-Imperialism; and all 'right thinking people' are anti-Imperialist today. States don't need to be imperialist to do harm - a good statist will tell you that.

@zacheryeckard3051 It certainly posed no existential threat to me. I caught COVID twice; but each time I my immnue system overcame the disease within 1 day - with a little help from some meds the US DHS would like to ban so that Big Pharma can make loads more doh. I hope Big Pharma are paying their shills well. Are they paying you?

" consistently appearing on the American Library Association’s list of frequently challenged books" <- I looked for Animal Farm on ALA's list of challenged books but could not find it in the top 100 books challenged for the past 30 years. So what definition of "frequently" are you using here? Is it the definition where Lefties make stuff up on demand?

The lesson you should've learnt from Animal Farm is that individuals will game the system to take power, and will lie unless there are systems of accountability and openness to expose their lies.
