  1. The "free press" was never a thing. It was an aspiration. That was then - when the alternative to a "free press" was Fascism and Stalinism. Today, the establishment have taken control over the media and - in response to appeasing their Leftwing critics of the GFC (global financial crash) - asset managers created ESG - "Environmental and Social Governance". Asset managers manage much of the world's financial assets as agents of pension funds (for example). These ESG guidelines promote woke and environmentalism. This is the real reason the mainstream media are woke and environmentalist. This bizarre thing is just how far the media have cut themselves off from Joe & Jill Public. Media employees are all University graduates today - many of them somewhat posh, or alienated from the masses. Back then, news people were basically working class. In a nutshell modern media are pro-woke, urban Leftwing elites.
