@7screamingdizzbusters It may be there in the History books but sometimes people don't read it. From my limited perspective, MAGA Republicans aren't exactly the analytical type studiously poring over past events to make their policies.

Russia had their hooks in Finland in the 1800s and apparently never want to let go.

@Silveirias Finland became part of the Russian Empire from 1809 until its independence in 1917. Finland was a Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire, although during this time it retained many of the laws that it had adopted while part of Sweden. Finland still has a Swedish minority. But, what do I know, the only Finns I met emigrated.

@Silveirias And that's where it bumps into my family history. One great grandfather fled being drafted into the Russian army as they stopped exempting the Finns from being in the Czar's army. He fled to Uusi Suomi. Another great grandfather was a Swede Finn from Oulu. The Swede Finns did look down a bit at the normal Finns. Thanks again - Next time I visit the library, I may do a bit of history reading. Finland s in NATO now. Thirty One other countries should help Russia from messing with Finland and I'm sure the Finns can handle the Swedish people.

Thanks Jake - It's kind of a mystery why You Tube doesn't want people to see blown up buildings. It's kind of strange. Looks like some headway s being made with MAGA Mike Johnson. However, the wheels of Congress move slowly.

@Silveirias Thanks for the comment. This war has prompted me to learn a bit about the history of Russia, but I don't really know much about the Swedish Empire and how they treated the indigenous people of Finland. I guess I should do some reading as some of those folks were my ancestors.😊
