Some of the best music is "lifted" from folk music. Edvard Grieg did the same thing.

@ivancho5854 Well - Looks like nuclear fuel fabrication is another opportunity for someone.
2
Aren't LNG facilities still limited? Those big liquification compressors Are probably not idled. I suspect they are working to capacity.
2
When the Chinese take over Russia, they'll put up new better radar.
2
Colorado sure does look nice,.....what was he talking about?,.......something about wheat.
2
Who fled to Taiwan several generations ago? Chinese people. What language do they speak? Mandarin Chinese. Who is Taiwan's biggest trading partner? Mainland China is the biggest trading partner. How many people live in Taiwan? 23.5 million. Population of Mainland China 1.4 billion. It kind of seems that if the mainland Chinese were motivated to do so then they could rather quickly develop sophisticated semiconductors. I'll bet they could do it for a fraction of their military budget.
2
Global - Chinese owned vessel, manned by an Indian crew and heading to a US port. The oil seems to be from Kuwait. It kinda seems like Iran is like me sometimes just mad at the entire world.
2
Great Video - I think more and more people are learning the truth about these guys, I didn't like some of the "old" Republicans with their libertarian ideas, but I really don't like this crop who are anarchists. I did like Peter's comparison to Greenpeace. Greenpeace is at the other end of the political spectrum, but their effect is the same as the Republican anarchists. Maybe - it will take more than Republicans reaching across the aisle to Democrats. Maybe - Some of us will need to register as Republicans to help save rational Republicans from being voted out during Republican primaries. The public may need to save the Republican party from itself. Let's encourage all of Congress to help Ukraine and solve the nation's problems.
2
@kitthroneberry1577 I think the open pit iron mines in Minnesota and Northern Michigan have a pretty good record. I used to live close to one of the mines that is now shut down and it is a popular fishing spot. They've been mining in these areas for about 150 years.
2
Might be the time to start building these small nuclear reactors (SMRs) as an alternate energy source. The fuel can last a long time. It could be shipped on one of those small ships.
2
The glasses, the Palm trees and the slow saunter down the boulevard. Yeh - He's got the movie star thing down. Those Finns have the Sisu thing going for them. I think Mr. Zeihan is right that if big Russia picked on little Finland, they would get a lot of help. It's kind of like all the South American countries telling the bus driver to back away from Guyana.
2
You are right. Build new metal processing plants outside of the normally considered USA. I think Gary, Indiana may be such a place. A lot of jobs would be provided to the natives. A lot of wealth would flow in.
2
@@user-jc5mh2pf5v You say, "yeah, and the sun shines outa my arse" You should really have that looked at. It could be serious. Hopefully, your health insurance will cover it.
2
This guy lives well. How many pairs of sunglasses does he have? Japanese innovation may benefit more than one Western Navy.
2
Those wrap around sun glasses he is wearing to day are cool as is this beautiful Alpine valley. That description of the war monuments is amazing. The US war sounds like small potatoes. One thing that Peter did not call out was that while the US fought the North Vietnamese, the US was allied with the South Vietnamese. I believe France and China fought all of the Vietnamese. There is a bit of a difference there.
2
So, why does nobody ever talk about fining the people that hire illegal aliens? It's like it is conveniently swept under the rug. The fines could be used to pay for those doing the enforcement. As Mr. Zeihan said, folks can quadruple their income by coming here. If that source of income were curtailed, the flow of ambitious people would be curtailed. Summer is beginning to wane. He wore no sunglasses today.
2
@davomerr Hey guy - You don't need all those rare elements needed for the batteries. I do believe you wouldn't need the rare earth materials for the motors either. It just ain't apples and oranges.
2
Beautiful backgrounds - Why can't Mexico make a deal with Venezuela for oil? Perhaps the Venezuealn oil can be refined in Mexico.
2
This guy can turn up anywhere. No sunglasses today. He appears to be everybody's favorite geopolitical humbug. He almost gave it away in today's video. It was the reference to James Bond. Perhaps the geopolitical thing is just a cover. He seems to know a lot of how government's function. Can one man gather all that intel? What organization is he associated with?
2
@whazzat8015 You thinkin' spent fuel? That stuff can be recycled. By the way Plutonium has a half life of more than 20,000 years. Think long term.
2
Aid to the rust belt was thousands of feet beneath our feet. But,.......just like peak oil, it will not last forever.
2
@batonnetdecannelle Nuclear reactors produce heat. It can be used for electricity or anything that you want. In fact you can produce other fuels with it.
2
@AUniqueHandleName444 Good - While we are at it, let's build some nuclear power plants to power all these factories.
2
This is an unpopular view, but those cell phone providers could be either regulated to lower prices or simply nationalized. Nationalized industries are painted as the children of Satan by true believers of pure capitalism. However, when you look around at things like sewer, water and even electric supply it can work pretty well. You need your phones. There is no need for the service to cost an arm and a leg.
2
They should have commandos that target Russian weapon factories. Eliminate their means to wage war.
2
@youtubeurevil Yeh - Somebody ought to point this out to House Republicans. Aid to Ukraine can do the same thing as it did for the Russians in WW2. However, be careful, House republicans may turn it around and think we should aid Russia.
2
That's his favorite new Zealand lake. It must be nice to be a jet setter. I see another video with the title, "Putin's Gone Crazy." Putin with his shaky hand near the nuclear button is not reassuring. Barry McGuire's mid sixties hit, "Eve of Destruction," immediately pops into mind. The video was a bit reassuring.
2
Beach looked rather empty. Will admission of new countries into the EU promote democracy?
2
OK - Russia is a big country and have a reputation of an awesome military. Mr. Zeihan says they have 10X more stuff to bring to bear on the Ukrainians than the Ukrainians have. However, if they really have all this stuff, why would they need the help of Iran and North Korea. Why are they pulling old T-62 tanks out of their tank junkyards? Why do they have to get convicts to do their fighting? Why have they raised the enlistment age to "old man?" I think the Russians may be able to punch well, but maybe they are getting a little more wobbly on the feet than they let on. They may be susceptible to a few well placed Ukrainian body blows.
2
Mr. Zeihan is unique in that he showcases the beauty of nature. Frame 4:15 "In the aftermath of the war on terror and the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is no political support for a mass deployment of anything from the United States for anything besides a top level national event." Thank those crazy neocons, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, etc. for showing the US public the insanity of regime change. This foreign war, however, really showcases the good vs evil thing. The Russians are attempting regime change. Those old weapons are being put to good use.
2
Good Talk - It reminded me of something. Audits on how the US spends money on the military seem to run into dead ends. Could the US be faced with similar military corruption issues and not realize it? It seems kind of basic to be able to track the money. A common statement made when investigating government corruption is "Follow the Money."
2
Does he have new sunglasses? Synopsis - The rain caused damage.
2
Pretty trees - Hope no forest fire gets them this Summer. Due to shipping costs, power plants would be "mine mouth." They used to say, "It's cheaper to ship coal by wire." Nobody mentioned Mercury in lakes and rivers. Neither Pete nor other commenters. Nothing about black lung either,.......curious.
2
Good One - Although he focused on Indiana, the good effect f American steel ripples to benefit the miners in Upper Michigan and Minnesota. Prosperity may return to isolated pockets in the USA!
2
@trojanthedog Refueling outages have been typically 18 months to 2 years. After 2 years they at least have to shuffle the fuel in the core to ensure even burnup rates. Turbine maintenance will also be needed at that time. Submarine reactors can go 20 years on one load of fuel. The German people are known to be pragmatic. They have possibly some of the best engineers in the world. They will find a solution to their energy issues.
2
OK - Russia is this big cold land. They cause all their neighbors trouble. Canada is this big cold land. The people are known for being polite and friendly.
2
@Steve-eq8iz Forty three million Americans claim German ancestry.
2
This is indeed a good location for Peter to tell the future rocky road for Germany. Peter kindly discusses the fact that the Germans are being beguiled about green energy. The sad thing for green energy advocates is that he uses facts which are hard to argue with At frame 6:07 he says - "That leaves nuclear power which the Germans have largely shut down." Nuclear energy is undergoing a slow renaissance. German scientists and engineers are some of the smartest in the world. German history has shown this. At the end of World War 2 Germany was destroyed. They were in a far worse situation than they are in today. Germans changed their thinking at that time. They became a nation of peace. It seems a much smaller change for them to change their thinking on nuclear power. It can be used to replace much of that cheap gas from Russia and provide a much larger percentage than the 10 percent they receive from the currently acceptable "green" sources. Germans are mountaineers. They will climb the rocky road and be successful.
2
Great Landscape - Public parks are a good example of Socialism. Glad they are not privatized. I'm jealous of this guy. He travels all over the world and hikes in beautiful places. As for the topic, I'd have to agree except it may take more than a few weeks for the Swedes to be approved by Turkey. The Turkish election is not until May. Erdogan can't change his mind until after the election.
2
All this hiking in the fresh air, beautiful countryside and in altitude has got to help his health. I suppose he doesn't smoke. Then he is using his brain. He may live to 120 if he eats right. However, maybe he is off base with some of his ideas. Poland is in the EU. The members of the EU seem to wisely be working together (mostly) to the benefit of all member nations. Could it be that military efforts will not take place by single entities such as Poland, but instead by the EU as a whole? I had a Sociology class years ago where it was discussed that people are becoming more integrated and interdependent as technology progresses. Russia and North Korea are isolated. Poland is not. Poland may not make moves without its neighbors. But, I don't even live in Europe so this comment ain't worth a lot.
2
Yeh - That was 1.21 gigawatts. I guess I'd rather have Mr. Fusion than the Wind machines.
2
I had to look up "lugubriously."
2
Nice glasses - beautiful background - Peak oil? Resources are finite. Oil does the global warming thing. If production increases, this finite polluting resource will have less years to make fat cats rich. Those of us on the bottom should demand a shift to hybrid electric cars and nuclear power. Ground based geothermal energy and heat can also help us out.
2
@tuckerbugeater It was a scam all right. it was a scam to "outsource" damned near everything because labor was cheaper and regulations next to non existent. Of course the rich business folks would say the labor is "more flexible." Fairy tales were told to us that helping unfriendly nations to industrialize would make them more democratic. It didn't work with Russia. It didn't work with China. Milton Friedman was wrong!
2
Great Hat! I kind of wonder what the German Green party would say to Peter's nuke talk. They just don't seem very open minded on the nuclear thing.
2
What makes an "engineer?" In the US, this title is often bestowed to those with minimal technical training. This is form the internet, but you have to wonder about any statistics from Russia. I bet China produces a lot of engineers. "Here are some top countries with higher number of graduates as Russian Federation takes the top slot with 454,436 of annual engineering, manufacturing, and construction graduates, followed by the United States with 237,826. Meanwhile, those engineering graduates from Iran number 233,695 annually. "
2
Did you notice the stack of books on the left? It's not the normal way books are put on a shelf. There looks to be a lot of liquor there. The stuff is as bad as sugar. He has kind of a cool statue of maybe a British Indian soldier. It could be one of the sikhs that the British worked with to keep order in India. The old maps were cool too. Our mainstream press kind of ignores Africa. It's up to people like Peter to educate us. Is there oil in this stateless area he spoke of? Nigeria has oil.
2
@buybuydandavis Longer term thinking is smart,
2
People better get along. History repeats itself. There was that big potato famine. If the stack of cards that make up modern civilization is upset,.....well history repeats itself.
2
Is Texas still in the USA. I'm not sure. I guess it is still in North America so Borealis comment holds.
