I wish I could make a prediction 20 years out like you. Twenty years ago there were still people who advocated the ideas of Milton Friedman where capitalism would bring democracy to China. Maybe Milton was right but he got the country wrong. Maybe Vietnam will loosen up on the totalitarianism thing.

I've been wondering a long time. Could a country do the communist thing and yet maintain human rights? I realize Vietnam is not supposed to be good with free speech, etc, but does it have to be that way in a communist nation? The human rights thing and the communist thing almost seem like two different ideas.

@farnarkleboy I totally agree. In fact I think we could do a better job of "Cherry Picking" various aspects of what other governments do in the US. I read about US healthcare then read about what they have in other nations and realize some things in US aren't done right.

It looks like Summer is rapidly waning in the high country of Colorado. I was thinking when I was listening to him. Vietnam is communist. Does this automatically mean they treat their people bad like Joseph Stalin? Peter notes that they work hard to educate their people. The country is working hard to get ahead. I look at all the advantages that Russia has had and they seem to be a "slacker" country. Vietnam has the lack of human rights, but the US got on good for many years with Saudi Arabia and those guys are no angels. US business greatly helped build the Red Chinese economy and they are no advocates of human rights. I'm just saying that it may be a good thing if the US cuts Vietnam some slack in their relationship. China did not come around and become more democratic. Maybe, Vietnam will not follow the Chinese path.
