Great Background - Despite the background and the discussion, I still like the idea of electric bicycles. A lot of the desired outcomes could come about if the roads were set up to make it easier for people to get around on a bike. Besides the environmental stuff, I think it would be healthier. Often you see one person in a car or a big pickup truck. Electric bikes would take a lot less space. Yeh - you couldn't use them all year but,......

@davomerr Hey guy - You don't need all those rare elements needed for the batteries. I do believe you wouldn't need the rare earth materials for the motors either. It just ain't apples and oranges.

@SteelSagas I think if I had the option to take a high speed train rather than be packed into the flying cans of the airlines, I would pick it Also - people in big cities have these trains called subways. They work really well. In fact, I'd bet they would work in some US cities that don't have them. Less cars on the road and less chances of car accidents. Kind of a no brainer actually.
