What do you think the actual answer is.  Should people who work hard give there money to others to make up the difference.  The money has to come from some where to pay the difference.  For thousands of years there has always been rich and poor no matter what you try to do the USSR tried to share wealth with everybody and it failed.  Most businesses in America are small employers and minimum wage destroys the ability of these business to hire.

  9. The US is spending 600 billion more than what it is taking in. So yes it needs to make massive cuts.  Taxing the rich is not going to grow the economy. This has been tried time and again. There are too many government programs like food stamps.

  10. Fray2221 I care and that is why I moved.  And I would do it again if taxes get too high. I did not work 100 hour weeks so that some welfare slob can sit down in some super market for 10 hours per week and get the rest of her salary paid for by welfare.

  11. Fray2221 Highly unlikely to happen that I am going to leave America.  There is good opposition in America to big government policies that boarder on socialism. At least less of my tax dollars goes on welfare slobs in America.  My wife is American and my children are America so I am unlikely to leave but if taxation was to become too high and push me to a point that the government takes more from my business than I do then I will leave for a more sensible economy.  But again not going to happen.

  12. JFK and Reagan showed that by cutting taxes the economy would grow. And by tax cuts it would be straight acorss the board.  Everybody would get it.  And then in the interim period there would be a deficit but the economy would then get growth to a point it would over take the deficit.  Raising taxes does not work.

  26. Socialist Skeptic I am a capitalist that works an 80 hour week to build businesses. I took the risks. I put up the capital. I can be held liable for any problems within the business. If I am to be taxed 95% then employees should face the same liabilities as me. And guess what us capitalist will find mechanism to ensure that these employees pay their way. Unless you are suggesting a complete communist system where there will be no capitalists.

  28. +SFO14 If they are making $50k in America then they are paying more taxes than they should be. But if they lived in the UK they would be paying even more again. In the UK anybody earning more than 34K a year would pay 40% where as in the US it would be 25%. Under President Eisenhower the rich and I mean very wealthy would pay 25%. And that was the wealthiest period in American history. Conservatives in the US will not allow taxes to get any higher and when there is a conservative president the rates will be lower. Trump plans to take them down to Eisenhower levels.

Reagan increased average household income by lowering taxation and this in turn meant people had more money to spend and this generated more expenditure in the economy. That is why unemployment under Reagan went from 13% down to 5%.

  30. +John Burt A family in the US who earns $50,000 per year would pay about 15% in the UK that exact same family would pay 40%. The UK has a far higher tax liability than the US. None of this is hard to understand.

  32. +John Burt Income 40%, capital gains 40%, Vat was about 18% and national insurance was 8%. Divides rates may have been about 40% as well. I am recalling this off the top of my head. I have no problem paying taxes for access to services but not for fat out of work slobs who would never work no matter what. Up to 50% of UK expenditure is welfare state based.

I would be happy with a taxation near to 25% than the near 40% today. Why should I pay for some fat person in the ghettos to get food stamps that allows them to buy TV's, Alcohol and the latest cell phone.
