Your peripheral vision will pick out odd shapes that do not blend in. So trying to form soft lines with your surroundings is key. Means of doing that is to actually use leaves and other things as part of that camouflage. If it is an option moving in low light will decrease movement detection. If you are facing the sun it means it acts like a lamp to light your position up so if you are moving on a known area having the sun at you back also helps.

Warmth is based on experience of the conditions you are operating within. You can theorise about laying and so on but unless you actually experience the conditions it is hard to judge.

Having a means of protection is a must and if an option traveling with others makes it fare more likely for a successful outcome. Falling over and breaking your ankle at night and going into shock become far more complex.

I assume you are doing this because you want to serve at some point? I would suggest taking up hunting as well and learn to lug that gun around and get used to using it. When it comes to actually passing military training one of the most misunderstood things is he combination of callisthenics and stamina such as running for a period of time and then having to climb and keep control of the body. It is extremely tiring and sucks the energy out of the even the most seasoned athletes.

If you are in a lighting storm and think there is a danger try and move indoors if not get as low to the ground as you can. The real danger when it comes to lighting is being in a very wide open space during a very active storm. If an option dig a hole and climb in does not even need to be really deep.

@ChaseRacebox Join the national guard do your service in that capacity. Airsoft will never compare to being in a service with other personnel. National guard is flexible and can enable you to gain that experience and to serve. If WW3 does come along you would be better getting that experience and finding out where your skills are rather than being assigned when the time comes.

@amschind The key to wild animals is startling them. Some will just run no matter how careful you are others are not so bothered. When it comes to noise discipline unless you are 6 feet away from a target noise is not going to be an issue but then again you could accidentally run into somebody and alert them. In a perfect world you would know the path you are taking and be moving on it in the dark.

Hunting animals is different from deal with humans in warfare. When it comes to animals it is about not startling them when it comes to humans it is about complete none detection. Lowering movement detection is key when dealing with humans.

It is fine being in a friendly defensive position with a heavy gun but when it comes to carrying it in battle it becomes a more complex task. You could train like crazy with it but that can all go out the window in a fire exchange when the pressure is on.

The only real way to gain understanding of movement is just to go out and practice. It really depends on the density of the forest floor and how wet it is. There is nothing worse than stepping into a hole and trapping an ankle because you cannot see it.
