  1. Britain entered a period of market planning post WW2 that more or less destroyed its ability to function. Everything from car production, food production and factory output was planned. And then there was the fact that government restricted planning but at he same time was the biggest developers of housing in the UK. And then the rise of the welfare super state that spent almost 75% of government finances on programs that held people back.

  2. It is the sad state of the west. It lacked real conviction and loved forming committees and making bold announcements and attacking its own culture with lofty ideas.

  3. Because Afghanistan was a terrorist staging ground with training camps. Afghanistan was ordered to stop the camps and to give up certain people who were involved and the Taliban refused to do so. Anybody who thought that the US would not respond after 911 is very naive.

  5. It is not even close. US military power is not just the actual money they spend on maintaining its military. It is in it industrial research and development.

  9. What if it pushes Russia into the arms of China. It could create a new world order that is willing to commit nuclear genocide. Imagine if China was able to bully the world with nuclear weapons. What would have been far better of would have been to just stand up to Russia making some sort of gesture. So by these measures does it mean Russia is now out of world trade forever and are they going to become like Cuba only with nuclear weapons and a large military?

  10.  @Nfh65f9  It really depends on how troops are put in. If they are put into fight the Russians that will most certainly be WW3. If NATO troops had of been put into the west of the Ukraine early in the invasion could have created an east and west Ukraine. Putting in troops now increases the risk so at some point a call needs to be made. A no fly zone is completely unrealistic. There calls for this during the early days of Syria for a no fly zone but it was rejected as it would lead to war.

  15. If you add Russia and China gold reserves together the US gold reserve is twice as large. The US has more gold than Russia, China and the International monetary fund combined.

  16. Maybe that will be the eventual outcome of all of this and things can settle down again but they are unlikely to want to do it right away so as to not show weakness.
