UK population is 65 million which means the UK should be spending £100 billion to be in line with US level expenditure. The UK spends about 200 billion in welfare which means there has been a 5% yearly growth of UK welfare expenditure while inflation has been at 2.5%. UK defence expenditure has actually gone down. It is clear what is actually happening.

Blue Origin is trying to master each area of rocket exploration before it moves onto the next. They have a conservative approach which means they are keeping quite and doing their job.

+Daniel Dietsche Britain now has an economic liberal as a PM that will mean massive economic growth over the next decade. I doubt we are going to see British battle groups formed similar to the US model which will make the British Navy even more powerful. It will be interesting to see if Britain resurrects more Vulcan aircraft type projects to add to this effect.

The thing about this as well is that the bombs could be used to penetrate the ground around the structure targeting the walls. The cost of building these specialized concrete structures is going to get so high that it will bankrupt countries trying to build them. The walls are going to have to be as thick as the roof on them.

@LongdownConker UK has a much larger global footprint that people realize. The UK needs more than those two carriers but they could be a good foundation for better capacity. The UK next needs to build battle groups around those carriers so that they are capable of service in full scale global warfare. If this was the case the UK could become second to the US in global naval warfare with the likes of China and Russia being left far behind.

Boris Johnson is a economic liberal. That means he will allow the UK economy to function as it should and throw of the big government approach that has destroyed the UK economy over the last 25 years. I suspect once that market growth happens the UK will be forming battle groups like the US with Carriers being the centerpiece. Smaller more nimble destroyers and sub hunters will be added to provide full capabilities.

A Swedish Submarine would never be able to create an incursion into a US battle group. What makes US battle group so special is that it has the carriers, support vessels and special submarine class detection vessels as part of the group. That system will use everything from radiation detection to sonar to build models of detection. What Sweden has will work on Russia and China but not the US.

@LongdownConker When Boris grows the UK economy we may see more capabilities added such as nuclear carriers and so on. UK has the know how it just needs the economic drive and government to carry it out. More anti aircraft ships are needed in the UK capacity.

@jantschierschky3461 Modern ordinance systems are getting extremely accurate. Smaller warheads with smaller cases can be directed. There is also the fact that bombs could be dropped at the side of the concrete structure to weaken the foundations. It is going to get to the point that construction engineering is so expensive that there is going to be a struggle with building these structures. Maybe that is even the strategy at play here.

The US can easily afford all of this. The problem is that the countries building the bunkers are going to need to invest large volumes of capital into projects they do not have. It is one thing to carry out lab experiments and another to build tens of thousands of cubic feet of structures.

@jonny1speed85 None of that will matter if there is a world war.

@TorianTammas Boris will get the issue sorted out much quicker than that.
1
The problem with all of this is that the construction is going to get very expensive so much so that most countries will not actually be able to build that many structures.

Once Boris can get his economic model into place it will cause massive UK growth and this will free up UK government finances to invest into the Navy and defence forces. The carriers will become the foundation to create full UK battle groups.
