  1. When it comes to high value manufacturing the US is the world leader. That means motor cars, engines, electrical systems and so on. China is a cheap plastics factory that supplies junk to western big store brands and for cheap generic products. No matter what people say the US is still the world's'' largest chip manufacturer. Taiwan specializes in RISC based processors which go into mobile devices and car infotainment systems. The backbone of the internet, communications switching systems, operating systems, power electrical systems and so on are all dominated by the US. Countries like German, Ireland, UK, Taiwan, Israel and Netherlands all contribute to the US system. It is not a case that US manufacturing is coming home but a case of consolidation were an expansion is about to take place.

  2. You have an unrealistic view of the world. You have bought the idea that the US has a poor education system and that China has more students than the US as meaning something. Reality is that the majority of people in China live on less than $1000 a year, live in third world rural areas and are not part of the shiny city lifestyle that is being sold. Russia is not much better with extreme levels of poverty being the norm. US education has some of the words best infrastructure.

  5.  @VII0777  Mexico and US, Canada and other select countries. The Anglosphere is about to suck all of this up again. When people complain about automation what they do not realize is that it will increase output of Western countries and humans will have to be employed alongside that. Many companies are struggling to find automation support workers and that is not just engineers but production staff.

  7. There are these little people called tooth fairies. Have you heard of them. Well Russia has lots of them stored under the floorboards right next to Russian microchips factories, aerospace manufacturing and auto industry. Lada are not even as good as Fiat.

  9. Russian military industry collapsed in the 1980s with most of the Russia nuclear arsenal being from the 1970s. Russia simply did not have resources in the 1980s,90s or 2000s to build out their ageing system and only started a real fitted out about a decade ago but they are way behind the curve. Russia would be lucky if it has 5% of its nuclear capabilities form the 1970s. US has about 50% of its capabilities from the 1980s period. While both countries have the nuclear source material from the warheads they do not have the mechanical systems in place. The US has outspent Russia by a factor of 500 to 1 on nuclear weapons systems and they still only have about 50% capability.

It was not a market system and because of that it did not function. The Russian people simply could not stomach their system any longer and if it did not structurally collapse it would have ended in civil war. You are delusional if you think that Russia was still building nuclear weapons in the 1980s.

  12. AI machines help to make humans more productive. So US factory could outperform a hundred Chinese factories. It is one of the reason why the US auto manufacturing sector has such a high output.

  15. The US has the world's best education system. It is a myth that other countries are more advance. Only Germany has a better industrial training system but how sustainable that would be is a guess .
