I had to google that and then roll my eyes.

Dan probably has money in the millions but not $50 million.
1
@pureheroin9902 Google would be better if it had competitors to keep it on its toes. Most of these tech companies that are socially based are very new with little competition. They would not be so political if they had a rival to keep them running.
1
It all sounds rather complicated.
1
That all sounds great when they are busy building but what happens if they stop building or different clusters of people encroach upon one other. The founding fathers of the US were dealing with the same issues 250 year ago.
1
Anybody who believes somebody can make $50 million from playing poker is one naive person.
1
@masondaub9201 No harm having other things as well. I love LISP and RISC.
1
Liberalism is based on Life, Liberty and estate and can also be fused with conservatism.
1
@unicaviard Libertarianism is an actual political movement that is focused on politics. Classical liberalism is a philosophy. What people call classical liberalism is in fact conservativism today. It means for demonstration sake a person can be for small government, individual freedoms like free speech and still believe in the value of religion. You can be all for fiscal responsibility but at the same time like Santa Claus.
1
It is good to have those laws on the books so that you can see they will not work. Imagine nobody could bring them up or show that they were tested. You would end up with crazy people trying to convince everybody that it was never tried before because they would just call it something else. Jeremy Corbyn in the UK said he wanted to introduce new laws so as to segregate carriages on trains for different ethnic groups. Well there are laws on the books that are in place already and they cannot be applied or new laws cannot be introduced to do the same thing.
1
Turing Test is not an indication of conscious AI it is more an indication of capabilities of the AI system such as can it perform at human levels.
1
I would not go for that but it really depends on how it is implemented. There could be a cooling of period of 5 years and if it does not work it could mean it is easier to remove of the books. What if the 60% introduce the law then forget about it and it only affects the 40% so when a new vote comes around the 60% are not needed as they do not care.
1
No but could be a tool that is used in such bonds. Surety bonds are a legal construct.
1
Imagine a person is in a fight and ends up in a funny position they could be held up by their tie which would cut their blood supply or cause choking. That John Danaher is a crap talker at best.
1
The first question you need to ask is are you a programmer or software engineer? You can be both or just one of them.
1
The CIA are not active inside the US. They are a government bureaucracy with very limited capabilities.
1
@shahzad5835 Classical liberalism recognised Life, Liberty and Estate. It also recognised tradition and its various guesses. Do not confuse liberalism with socialism.
1
@dallasswoveland4466 A liberal is somebody that believes in Life, Liberty and Estate. They can also believe in tradition as well. Just because you believe a person should be free does not mean you cannot also want tradition to take place. I can want a person to have free speech and still practice the tradition of their religion or family customs.
1
@dallasswoveland4466 "Conservative refers to conservation. Conserving (the current) established, prevailing, traditional, norms" That is Toryism you are referring to which has not truly been in practice for a long period of time. I will give you a sort of over view of the three philosophies at hand which are Liberalism, Toryism and conservativism. Liberal believes in Life, Liberty and Estate. Toryism believes in God, Queen, and Country. Conservatism believes in Crown, Lords, and Commons.
1
I prefer lisp to that of Julia. If speed is your issue that more than likely means you are developing software of some sort or playing with data.
1
@Hobojo153 alt But then the question becomes how do you get to the master ai system with the modular approach. Does it necessarily develop in that linear fashion.
1
And what if the creator does not want it to be free. Are you going to force them?
1
You would not want that for everything but you could most certainly do it for important issues such as declaring war or prohibition.
1
And what if a figure raise an army and decide that they want communism. What are the anarchists going to do then.
1
You just do not want to eat too many peaches. Free vegetables should be the foundation of most diets. And then you can eat some fruit, meat and fish if you desire but not too much.
1
Was the study based on those that were of the Maasai ethnic group or was it those that lived in their native culture?
1
Morrowind had a more open feel to it and way more adventure and you could use your imagination more with magic and the world. It is just a pity that the graphics were not just that little bit better.
1
@Akash-ug5yh All the players I listed have shined at a world cup final and also have great club careers. Messi had a great club career but was not as good at international level.
1
@Pranab Kar Zidane has been a great world cup player and a great club player. He also won France the world cup by scoring two goals in the final against Brazil. Messi has never won a world cup and the final that he played in he was below average. Even the games leading up to the final he was average. All the players I have listed above have shined at a world cup final. Messi has played at 4 world cups and was bang average at all of them. Ronaldo Lima is another great player as was Rivaldo who played in the same team and both of them are greater than Messi and if you want to argue that they are better than Zidane do so.
1
@jorder Yes he was a great player but was he better than Zidane?
1
I personally think it would be extremely difficult to actually cheat. It is possible that a code could be learned for every piece on the board and then a code for the positions but try to implement that during a game would be extremely complex.
1
I wonder how direct democracy would work if the public voted to remove the right of free speech, right to congregate and the right to vote all at the same time because the media convinced them that the far fight released a bioweapon from a Chinese lab?
1
The human brain is not a single system with an input and output. So the idea that you will need a complete central model to produce driverless cars is not the only way. The end game is to produce a system that is capable of driving a car to human level expectations. How that is achieved is irrelevant to the style of type of system that is used.
1
Why should it be free. And who gets to decide what is free and what is not.
1
You are joking?
1
The issue of smoking is one of behaviors nothing more or nothing less. Doing psychedelics is not going to change that. There are countless people who do psychedelics that still smoke and abuse them self in various fashions.
1
The problem with selecting random animals is down to how much of a fighter they really are. Some individual bears are very aggressive while others are not so much. Applies to the other animals as well.
1
@Marcos Anaya If I could make a suggestion rather than trying to pick a language try and find out what methods of programming you would like to learn and why you want to learn them. This could save you a lot of problems. If you want to learn a wide range of skills I would suggest something like DrRacket and its various teaching courses available. You can learn every major foundational method of programming with DrRacket but it is not a commercial language but everything you learn can easily be transferred.
1
@Dontcaredidntask-q9m I think for many beginners Dr Racket and the HDTP programs would be the best approach.
1
Kurzweil's singularity is a human experience. It is a merger of AI and human intelligence. Kurzweil makes the singularity simple for people to grasp as an idea but even he has to be aware the moment turing is reached humans will have systems that will massively expand human intelligence. Imagine if every human on earth had an einstein level of intelligence what that civilization would look like. Could we even understand it.
1
It really depends on how aggressive the individual animal is. You could have a bear with moderate levels of aggression go up against a small house cat that is ultra aggressive and the bear will just run away. I suppose if you were to select the most aggressive individual animals for comparison meaning each animal is all in for the fight.
1
I would have to disagree that the primary function of the brain is 3 dimensional space.
1
@cooIfooI The brain does deal with 3 dimensional space but it also deals with concepts that are not special such as language, mathematics, music, love, hate, greed and so on. These are aspects of the brain that are not just 3 dimensional. A baby that can have no awareness of 3 dimensional space can still have other brain activity. I am not saying 3 dimensional space is not important but I would not say it is primary.
1
Most people do not want to be programmers they really want to be software engineers. Producing either phone apps, desktop apps, games, websites and so on.
1
@Pivot-Shorts Programming is not software engineering and is about the process of written procedures. A software engineer produces software such as the things Listed in my previous comment. They use a very narrow scope of programming and in many cases use prepared patterns that are already made and do not write programs. Being a software engineer, network engineering or operations development roles does not make a person an actual programmer. Somebody that uses PLC to manage an air-conditioning system does not make them a programmer.
1
I do not believe that it is beings from another planet but at the same time the analysis by the debunkers is less believable.
1
It is complete and pure nonsense that a grandmaster could have their game improved by a simple set of directions. To admit that would be to say that intelligence amplification is already occurring.
1
Bridge is a different type of game and can have cheating. For a high level chess player there is simply no known mechanism for cheating. What people are claiming here is that the game variations of chess somehow have been completely modelled and is used to amplify human intelligence. I have no doubt that technology will advance in that realm but not today.
1
That was dreadful analysis. Weight outside competition is irrelevant.
