That 20 accuracy rate only applies to specific small targets and not a wall of Roman troops moving. The accuracy rate would be much higher against such a wall of troops.

@ATLMike94 What people do not understand about the 880m range is that they can actually fire further than 880m. That range is the considered accuracy range for an individual shooting on a single target not trying to hit a large line of Roman legion with simply no range attacks. There would be many romans dying at over 1000m and if the USMC has an elevated position that is only going to increase as a force multiplier.

Force multiplier. 40 marines firing on a mass of targets is going to have a much higher impact than one troop firing at one troop.

@Julian-pw5mv Romans did not use wide spread bows. They used it in a limited fashion. Marines would just move out of the range of bows and use a tactical retreat that would take into account the bows and weapons used by the Legion.

Marnes have repelled tens of thousands of storming Chinese and North Korean troops who are also armed with guns.

A tackle retreat could easily happen with a few hundred meters of a gap. It simply would not be a contest.

The romans could never close the distance with the numbers they have. Also it would be a force multiplier going up against 4000 to 5000 roman troops. It would be much more difficult to actually not hit the target.

Romans are not trained to move like that. Then they would have to fight at close range if the USMC decide to let them get that close.

@spxdel8520 It is not just that they are Marines they are using modern weapons. Small forts have held out before against thousands of troops. 300 Spartans held out a continental sized army long enough that back up forces could do the rest.

@spxdel8520 So what you are saying is that a potential force of 3000 withstood an onslaught of hundreds of thousands of troops. I do not think you really countered my point with that. Try again.

Not even the same. Somalia was a disaster that unfolded. It was not properly acted upon and the US did not want to appear to be attacking Somalians.
