Anybody who wants to be a Marine when they are young I suggest taking up a sport and compete because you will come up against that wall in sports some times and it will stand you good. At school as was a middle and long distance runner, did boxing and wrestling as well and the mind set I developed enable me to face that wall. Trust men in Royal Marine training you will hit that wall on many occasions so do you drop or keep going.

The vast majority are snowflakes and they also get all the media attention with their save this and that or their struggle with some offence they have. That young man is not the norm today. I feel sorry for young people and the culture they are being shaped within today.

+Jake Sherratt I would suggest joining a running club and start on their training programs. And do competitive runs as this will put you up against the wall and you will meet that many times in Royal Marine training. The sorts of things you want to consider for yourself as a training program is interval training or Fartlek training. They will enable you to increase your strength within your runs. If you are out their just pounding the footpath doing the same pace over and over what your body does is adjust to this so that you get good at that and the moment you try to go beyond that you will struggle. Now If I was to suggest the perfect training program to prep for Royal Marines I would suggest strength training, Cardio and last but not least and the most forgotten or least understood calisthenics. If you could only do one type of training I would suggest calisthenics. It effectively is your ability to control your body weight such as pulling yourself up a rope or climbing only using your arms.

@JustinSane50 The vast majority of children in modern Britain spend the majority of their time on screens and it starts when they are young children. This is just the reality of the situation. They are soft. One in five young people today are idealistically socialist. In my day no young person cared about these issues. Most young people today think the world is about to end in 15 years time. Many are offended by just talking about issues.

There are options for Parachute training within the Royal Marines but they are on a basis or what is needed and not just a case of a simple application. Commandos are an elite approach in themselves and if you get their you simply may not care about being in the big fancy SF units.

Take care that you do not over do it. When you are in pain your body is inflamed and that can cause problems in other areas if you push it too hard. I would say seek medical attention as well for recover and if physio is required go down that route.

Most people will say desire and heart and many other things as well but the thing is many people have never actually come up against that true struggle before and when they are confronted they just collapse.

You are in a tough situation. On one hand you may actually be capable of doing the training but on the other you may not. I would suggest getting your self assessed independently and not to reveal that you are ASD when getting the assessment made so as not to bias any outcome. . There are occasions that misdiagnoses happens for legitimate reason. In the meantime you could consider taking up athletics such as cross country or long distance running for fitness and mental fitness.

+Ok Ok I would suggest joining a running club that is suitable for you age. One thing you are most certainly going to come up against in P Coy is your limits. If you train alone what will happen is that you will form your own limits in your head and you will probably never go beyond those limits. I would also suggest calisthenics to go along with that running which will enable you to get stronger so that you can control your body weight with pullups, climbing explosivements. Also have a look a mud running there is nothing like a freezing day to get pushed to your limits when you are just caked in crap.

I would also suggest judo or wrestling to build up your body as well. And if you go into competitive matches you will know what it is like to go up against a challenge.

If I was to suggest the perfect athletic base for elite military units I would say that person would be a swimmer, Long distance runner and Gymnast. For example if you did life saving, Athletics and gymnastics you would be in a very good position. As it would enable you to perform endurance activities and climb about anything you come up against and be able to control your own body weight. Compress it down even further do triathlons and gymnastics training. You do not have to be the best at these things you just need to do them and build you body up as you do them.

I would assume you have got three years ahead of you. So use that time to build up your body to endurance events such as taking up cross country running. You will need Calisthenics (google the term if you do not know what it is) and since you are joining a para group you will need a head for heights so it might be an idea to combine body strength with heights such as rock climbing (start with indoor walls). I would suggest you start thinking in terms of being able to take part in long distance brutal endurance events such as cross country running and having good body strength so that you can climb things. The one thing I was not prepared for was training at heights which was the hardest part for me not the long distance endurance events I actually found those easy events even when exhausted I just pushed through which is something I did before many times before.

That camp will do you good and be a big help. Doing bodyweight training will help you as well. One thing I would suggest is to take up competitive running with a local club as this will teach you push yourself and there will be times when you do it where you will meet the wall and have to break through. Even better than running would be Triathlons where you will actually mix disciplines such as Running, Swimming and Cycling one straight after the other and get a good feeling for mixed events. No doubt when you aim for paracommandos you will not just be out doing a run on its own you will be running and climbing and maybe swimming all at the same time. Just for a starter do some running and throw in bodyweight training all in the one session. You could be an amazing runner and then at the end of a run be asked to climb a tree and not actually be able to do it.
