The problem is that Guardians was released when Marvel was just starting to get really popular and people loved the characters in that story. And that was seven years ago. The issue they have today is that they have told the end of the world story line so many times that people are sick of it and they expect it to be now in every Marvel movie and they are releasing these movies when there is numerous other big budget action movies telling the same story. Audiences are tired of the big budget boring movies with the same generic story only this time the women in films are not as good looking as they were in the older movies.

Foreign box office performance does not mean the studios see that much money out of. In America the studio probably gets a 50-50 share but internationally they are lucky if they get 20%. If it is a film by a small studio they will probably get 10% from the box office.

It is not just Marvel the whole film industry is on dangerous grounds. Just seen that terrible movie Free Guy started out well but got boring really fast. All most every film now at the cinema is about a big world ending event dressed in science fiction action.

You may go and see it but the general audience will probably not. Marvel and Disney are in serious trouble and they may not even realize it yet.

I doubt cinema is dead and not going to come back.

Hopefully they are the "New Hollywood" that can lift things out of the doldrums. The only issue is that the studios are all up their eyes in debt and are being subsidized by other larger corporations that are just hell bent on pushing ethics in entertainment.

You are talking crap at best. Western culture was creative and it gave the world medicine, communications, automotive transport, air travel, telescopes and so on. Films like Vertigo, Godfather, pulp fiction and so on were amazing and there was many others like them.

@TheEbbemonster Shang-Chi does not interest me because it looks like a soulless Hong Kong rip of movie.

There is only so much juice that can be squeezed from an orange. Cinema audiences have been in decline for the last decade due to the low standards of content. Look at your local cinema and you will see that nearly every movie playing is some generic big budget science fiction action movie with the same story about saving earth from some big engineered catastrophe. It is like telling a farming story with the ending being about a plague of locusts every single time. It is like you can almost tell the ending of the film before you even step foot in the theatre. I just took my family to see Free Guy as it was the only thing that we could all watch and it was bloody awful.

Everyone of these movie is about saving the world. Imagine every movie was a farming movie that always ended with a plague of locusts.

They may not actually do that but the impression they have given to date is they will do that. Even at the end they were not calling captain america by his name they were calling him caps. Why did they not just build up falcon instead of using the character to push their political agenda?

While it maybe a thrill ride for you it does not appeal to the general cinema audience. Most Marvel movie fans would rather sit at home and watch the movie on their phones under the blankets at night time while their parents could not care that the child is on devices 24/7.

@firesnakex8 No the multiverse is going to get very confusing especially for the casual movie fan.
1
Not sure how they push that one.

I do not think they have run their course. What has run their course is the big Studios. They are all producing films that the public are not interested in. Theatre audiences have been in decline for the last decade just as the Oscars audience has been in decline. Remember when people would know who the oscar winners were. Well in the last 5 oscars I cannot tell you who won them never mind who was nominated. I can remember the Oscar winner from from 1995 but cannot remember who won 2015.

Did not like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage nor Iron Fist. Daredevil and Punisher were good.

This is the culmination of a film industry that is obsessed with big budget save the world story while at the same time using the movie to push ethics.

The Multiverse will confuse the hell out of casual moviegoers and will be a real turn off for them. The end of Avengers makes no sense. SO all the characters that died still went through that horrible death and their replacements are not really them and from an alternative universe. Imagine that happened to your love one and then a carbon copy arrives well guess what you are going to instinctively know it is not your love one.

Black Panther was an ordinary film but it got released when Marvel was at its height. It did over 1.3 billion at the box office and if they were to release that movie today it would do anything close to it.

No Way Home and Doctor strange are the films that people are interested in because they recognise the characters and know what they will get. The other films people have a deep down feeling that they will be telling some trashy story.
