@Lee Turnbull US marines are not Commando's but they are still tough but their conditioning and training is really in concern to their operational capabilities of their force size. US marines are not really designed to operate as independent small teams in a Commando role. There is about 200,000 US marines and it even has an Airforce that is bigger than the RAF. That should really put things in context. The USMC has their personnel trained to the level they need for 200,000 troops. USMC uses their Marines strictly as Marines with about 4000 to 6000 US Marines trained as Commando's.

@USMC0311CplJackson Sorry but I have to step into your conversation and spoil it. The figures you are stating do not in anyway take the situation into account. Argentina could supply fighters directly from Argentina to the Falklands. Britain had one expedition force that could not be restocked. It was like when the US Marines went into the pacific against the Japanese. It is a much more difficult task for an attacking force than a defense force that is well dug in. Argentina had all the advantages. Even the British fighter jets were Warriors that were not suitable for the task. They had to go up against superior jet fighters. And the British still managed to win the air superiority fight purely based on tactics rather than technical capabilities. Now I think it is silly to compare Vietnam with the Falklands.

@FusionLick UK special forces are not the same as US special forces. The designation is very specific in the US. Special forces does not apply to Navy SEAL's or Marsoc. Royal Marines are Commandos which means exactly what it states. They are Commando's with their techniques being developed in WW2 to carry out special types of raids in small groups. That means Royal Marine Commandos will operate behind Enemy lines in small groups carrying out unconventional warfare raids. People use the word special forces to mean elite and this causes confusion. RMC training is higher than USMC because it is a Commando force.

Beasting is part of the culture.

@noutubenamesleft Royal Marines are Commandos. US Navy SEAL's are technically not special forces either.

@mondaysinsanity8193 Royal Marines are not the same as Army Rangers. Royal Marines are Commandos which are a force designed to carry out Commando raids which means small troop numbers behind/in front of enemy lines acting in an independent capacity. Army Rangers are a special operations group that are the US primary shock troops. What you will find is that Navy SEAL's are Commandos as are US Army Special forces.

@mondaysinsanity8193 Navy SEAL's DEVGRU is the same as SBS but that does not mean the general force of Navy SEAL's is the same . Both DEVGRU and SBS are secretive forces that very little is known about with the most extreme forms of training. Britain does not have a technically trained Commando force similar to Navy SEAL's but if Royal Marine Commandos were given combat diving skills they effectively would be the same as Navy SEAL's that is what French Commando and dutch Commando's do. Australian Commandos give their troop jump training which makes them very similar to US Green Beret (special forces). There are similarities between 75th rangers, Navy SEAL's and British Commandos but they are all different with different roles. The nearest equivalent Britain has to 75th Rangers is Paratroopers but they are not exactly alike. US marines are an actual Branch of the US military with their own air force it would be a stretch to call them a shock troop. Both the US Rangers and Paratroopers are army based shock troops. Royal Marine Commandos are a Marine special warfare force that can operate in small boat teams or operate from coastal Commando insertions.
