  2. The F35 was never designed to replace the F22 nor the F16. It was politicians who canned the F22 because they felt it cost too much money but those exact same politicians have no problem with the US government spending 2 trillion per year on welfare. The F35 cost 400 billion welfare in the last couple of years has cost about 5 trillion. And yet welfare will not keep America safe.

  3. It is designed to be a multi purpose aircraft what will do the grunt work of the US air defence for the next 50 years. The 400 billion being spent on it will seem small in 20 years time. The reason why they built this super complex and very expensive craft was so that Russia and China simply could not produce a competitor even if they were given the designs tomorrow they simply could not do it. The US has been using the Harrier which is a craft from the 1960s and needed a replacement.

  5. The F35 is designed to be multifunctional and is also designed to be used by other militaries. The purpose is to create a jack of all trades that can be built in large numbers over the next 50 years. Remember Harriers are from the 1970s and are still in use.

  7. For all of you whining about the F35 costing too much. The US spends about 2 trillion per year on welfare. In 10 years that will mean about 20 trillion being spent on welfare.
