Points deduction is not enough. They need every title they won stripped. Otherwise the EPL will be seen as a laughing stock. Why support a team if you know there is cheating going on.

These charges are based in sports rules but could go legal at some point. Hard to call at this point.

Then you do not understand what is at play. The government has warned the EPL that they would face investigations unless they started to perform oversight. A lot of people are getting nervous about the sources of money that are floating about. The EPL has had their hand played in this one and they have no other choices. Other clubs like Utd are as well getting nervous as they are a publicly listed company and probably do not want anything like that in the league. The EPL has not gone public about this for the fun of it.

Absolute nonsense. Cheating is cheating is cheating. If those titles were won and they are found guilty they should be returned to the runner up of those competitions.

@andale_andale No. The 2018 period is just that for the investigation not what happened after that period. The allegations of them not participating with the investigation is from the period of 2018 to 2023.

If he does that he will be seen as a man of substance from that point onwards. That squad will clear out as well and will not hang around. Their contracts will probably be null and void giving many the opportunity of large pay days as well.

Clubs have to generate their own money and cannot use outside money for many reasons.

Definitely not relegation. They should be booted from the league and forced to reapply to the English league and start at the very bottom. That is what happened to Rangers and they have far more political clout than Man City have.

@Alphoric Can you name an EPL club that gets sponsorship that is more than their commercial relationship?
2
It is sports rules and then maybe the law. So there is no way you think you can swing the argument with that.

Those clubs earned their money over decades of success. Not even comparable.

The EPL is a membership that involves all the other clubs who are going to be very unhappy.

@pubg-blsy3352 It depends on the nature of the financial allegations. Is all of it in compliance with HMRC
1
If they are stripped of the EPL titles spurs will get one of those.

Newcastle has a 50000 seater stadium that it regularly packs out.
1
That 500 million could be explained for one season but not several seasons. City are in a different league. Unless you know more about what Chelsea have done over the last several seasons.
1
Arsenal have money as they have not splashed out over the years and have also paid of their stadium because of that. Man Utd are the same they have cash and rarely spend it.

The appropriate punishment is easy. City should be stripped of all titles, expulsed from the English league and then have to reapply. Fines are not enough for the level of charges that are being brought forward. There is also a risk that they have issues with the HMRC. There is no middle ground if the EPL does not do what is necessary the brand will be damaged and the Government will appoint oversight to the whole industry. The government is champing at the bit to get involved and are just waiting for the right opportunity. The eyes of the world are on the EPL. This news has already gone global.
