It is a lack of insight on his behalf.

@DanyCervantes A human civilization that has computational power that is 1000 times what we have now and has natural human speech processors will be in the midst of a singularity. In that world we will not have search engines or social media as we know it today. Everything will be so blurred and human capability (intelligence) will be so vast that we today simply could not understand that society. Long before nanobots and full VR there will be a singularity. Remember this will be layered with Turing level AI systems that will be perfectly fused with human intelligence.

What if you are not downloading it into a computer but into a new body that is made out of new cells that have been engineered?
4
@The3rdTurd Kurzweil is not talking about an information copy that then gets imprinted somewhere else. He is talking about the actual transfer of your mind/consciousness to a new body. He describes the process of converting existing biological cells in the body over to a new and improved cellular structure. At one point do you say that is not the same person is it at 5% conversion of the bodies cells or is it 99%.

In the last decade we experienced the capabilities of electronic communications. The next decade the 2020s we will experience ai on that system of communications and it will be truly extraordinary. Things we never thought were possible will be achieved in the next decade.
2
Kurzweil is being conservative in his predictions. By the end of the 2020s we will be at the point of a singularity. RIght now the interfaces are being developed for human and machine communications that will play out over the next decade.
2
Kurzweil is unique in that he is an engineer that can build things but he is also an artist in that he is a musician that can also create. It is the reason why he built the first optical pattern recognition scanners, music generation systems, musical synthesizers that can produce real instrument sounds and AI learning systems. When you hear Kurzweil talk you are actually listening to the creative side of him trying to communicate very complex systems ideas to the masses.
2
You are talking nonsense.
2
Kurzweil puts context on what he describes as immortal he just means living far longer than we currently can live.
1
What makes you think the upload will be into silicon substrate?
1
He made amazing ai that produced synthetic sounds.
1
@Sid J Or it could be that each cell in the body is rebuilt into a new cellular structure. And that is how the transfer takes place. At what point would you say you are transferred would it be 5% of your bodies cells or 99% of your bodies cells.
1
@katarishigusimokirochepona6611 But to get to the complete system down of our consciousness to machine we will first become cyborgs. Most people think these machines will be made out of wires and semiconductor circuits when in fact they will probably start as a new form of cellular machines that will look like regular biological cells even under a microscope.
1
And what if you can change each cell in your body and still retain that human factor of hunger or lust? A transfer could be as simple as rebuilding every cell in the body. We have a tendency to think of these things in terms of wires and chips when that will not be the case.
1
Nope. No brain chip interface will be used in such a system.
1
@SuccessBasis What if we can repair the cells in the human body and replace key cells in the human body such as the heart, lungs, blood cells, muscle tissues and even the molecular pathways of the body. Our brain cells could remain completely natural but the molecular pool that services those cells would enable the brain to be extra tough so that it could take the most extreme things thrown at the brain. SO our new bodies are far more resilient but look and perform as they do now so even if you are knocked down by a bus you will not die and you can live as a completely normal human being.
1
When we start to see the first generation of molecular manufacturing and also solving of biological health conditions through ai we will then start to get a better idea of the promises made by he likes of Kurzweil. Before that most people will not grasp the vision.
1
And what if all the bodies cells are rebuilt in a new engineered way but the brain itself is not? Or half the brain gets converted but the other half does not? Or the whole brain gets converted at what point are you not your own consciousness?
1
@AvangionQ At what point then do you feel that you stop being you with brain cell transformation.
1
@AvangionQ Not it is the right question and you know that it is because it is he reason you have thrown down the troll card because you know you have more or less been defeated. If 1% of your neocortex was converted to an artificial system do you think that means the person stops being them self. It is a very simple question no tricks or complications.
1
Maybe your cells will be completely artificial and you will be a superhuman.

Imagine what neural networks will be producing in 15 years time. Imagine what they will be able to build with protein folding done in a machine that can work millions of times faster than biology. With such systems would could grow trees in a day, houses in a day, cars in an hour, body parts in an hour and so on.
