Spotify is cool and easy to use but it lacks the physical feel you can get from a record or even a CD.

A good sounding system and a well treated room or at least having the walls filled up with furniture or books will enable you have an excellent near to studio experience. Remember he is talking about near to the experience and not exactly saying it is the same standard.

CD's have better audio than FLAC but are not as convenient to use. Out of all the digital formats CD is the premium sound format. CD quality is good enough that it can be used in all professional standard audio and even broadcast audio.

Sound systems back then were excellent. I have stereos systems for the 1990s and they sound better than most of the junk that is released today. What you have in your grandparents system if you were buying today you would need to spend tens of thousands. Most digital music formats are very clear but they lack any sort of character or warmth to them.

Far better than what 14 year olds hear today. To get the experience you had at 14 it would cost thousands today and only those with real money can afford it.

@claytron4679 You do not necessarily need to treat the room to have a good sounding system. Just ensure there is not lots of open space and bare walls and it will soften the sound and ensure there is not a echo and reverb from the sound.

Vinyl will sound more natural even on a digital system.

@34672rr Cheap Chinese speakers are not going to be able to handle the loads that a large amplifier can throw at it. In your fantasy audio engineering world your cheap equipment is simply not at the same level. You are like those fanboys that think their $200 Seiko is on par with a Swiss watch.

Music is analog as sound is a mechanical force. Vinyl systems do offer a close experience to that of raw music. Digital systems like CD still have an excellent clear sound to them and are worth listening to for many people. But if you do know the difference and how to achieve it through vinyl it sounds better as there is a warmth to it that CD cannot replicate. Now very expensive digital systems that play CD are getting close to the warmth of analogue system. I do love CD's and find them very easy to use especially in my car or workshop.
