  4. New Hollywood movies were still being made in the 1980s and had a revival in the 1990s. They just did not end. Traditional Hollywood always had a balance between blockbusters and grittier films. It is why the whole Film Noir and the likes of Hitchcock were able to exist. What we have now is nothing like the past blockbusters.

  10. The Green Mile and Shawshank redemption are prison movies and that is about their only relationship with Escape from Alcatraz. The point is that it would be impossible today to get a Hollywood film green lighted with a major star with no dialog at the start for 20 minutes. Maybe if Tarantino or Spielberg came a long and tried it could happen.

  13. Le Mans was a movie released at the height of McQueen fame and that is not really the sorts of movies that get made today. There are not many singular leading men movies today most are big budget extravaganzas where the actors are just a passenger.

  34. You mean characters with a good story. Very rare today. I just watched Bullet Train that tries to do that and the critics came after it hard but will at the same time praise movies like Dr Strange multiverse of madness.

  35. No comparison to be honest. That was a Robert Zemeckis project which would be the same if Nolan or Tarantino came along and decided to do it. Le Mans is a McQueen movie at the height of his fame and was a major release film that would not get done today like that.
