The best James Bond of all time was Connery who himself served in the Royal Navy. He was a genuine bad ass and was a really athletic guy. And his Bond movies were brilliant as well.

Christopher Lee who was in the man with the gold gun served in the British Commandos, SAS and was secret service agent in WW2. He was probably who bond was based on and was a close friend of Ian Fleming who also served in the Commandos in WW2. Roger Moore also served in the Armed services reaching the rank of Captain. That generation was so much tougher. Steve Mcqueen served in the Us Marines and was a real man as well. Today's actors are just soft as hell.

@MrBoothyboy1988 Both Moore and Connery were the real deal and did service and both were charismatic. There was no steroids in those days.
7
@kishenkoolskills90 The most brutal bond was Connery. He was a tough guy in real life who did his military service.
5
Moore was also the real deal as well and did his military service like Connery.
4
Reality? A five foot eight tall soft guy is not realistic at all. Moore and Connery were the real deal. They both did their military service.
3
@spokoman23 Fair play to him. He is rare in modern Hollywood and Ironically he does not play action roles.
3
Ddhfacetyy Connery's movies were brilliant.
3
@ConstantineFurman Moore was a far better Bond than anything after. He was the real deal as Bond unlike the steriod later generations.
3
@mart4414 Craig does not even come close to the physicality that Connery brought to the role.
3
@mart4414 Connery was a 6'2" beast of a man and an athlete. He had military service and all of that was clear when you see him on screen. That era was full of men like that. You could tell Audie Murphy was the real deal when he was on screen by the way he carried him self. Same with Lee Marvin. across
3
@buki3009 A 5 foot 8 tall actor hardly qualifies as brutal.
3
The only real Bonds were Connery and Moore. The rest were fake.
3
@Horacio Nelson I did not say Lee did not serve in the air force. Lee had served everything from sabotage, counter insurgency, police and Commando warfare and long range groups. He was ranked at flying officer and if he was in the army he would have been a rank of Captain. He was first and foremost an intelligence officer. What you think he just happened to be out playing with WW2 clandestined units. The only way to explain his attendance was that he had executive clearance he did not go through selection for each unit as that would have been impossible. He was even attached to CROWCASS. It was rare that personnel were freely attached to different clandestine units. Officers like him served from unit to unit for a reason. LRDG were rountiley called SAS but they were not SAS yet no body would debate with that. You are nitpicking on technicalities. It would have been impossible for any one person to have gone through a full service in the Units he served with. You can call it attached, served with , assigned or whatever.
2
No. He could be 008 who served in the military in special forces and earn his way up the ranks. Just keep it simple.
2
From Russia With Love is the best bond. Fact.
2
@gregorsamsa2271 Craig is nothing like Bond from the books. Bond is suppose to be tall with an athletic muscular build. He is not suppose to be a fair haired midget that takes steroids' and has a face that has seen too much action.
2
@gregorsamsa2271 There is absolutely nothing authentic about his portrayal of Bond. Connery and Moore were far more authentic because they had military service and you could tell in the way they carried them self. You do not get that impression from Craig. What you get is a modern action actor and that is it. If you read the books you would know full well that Bond when on active Duty was super confident in his abilities. He was not some whiny modern conflicted character he most certainly was a killer. Many of the men from that generation were far tougher than the Hollywood flowers of today. Even Lazenby carried him self with a level that differentiated him self from Craig. The change in bond starts to come about when Dalton came to the role as it started to become an actors role. By the way Craig is a good actor.
2
@gregorsamsa2271 Die Another Day was far better than No Time To Die.
2
@gregorsamsa2271 Craig did not do many of his own stunts stop with the nonsense. Most of it was cgi or doubles. He did the fight scenes but so what that is just normal action scenes. He is not Tom Cruise so do not pretend he was really hanging of a building.
2
And Moore.
2
Connery and Moore are the best.
2
Christopher Lee was probably who bond was based on. Both him and Niven were too old when Bond was being made.
2
Moore as well who did military service like Connery and was very charming even though the films were a little bit more OTT.
1
Ddhfacetyy They made great Bond movies as well. And they also were believable as Bond. They were not 5 foot 8 tall steroid users pretending to be athletic. They were the real thing. People understood in the era that these were real mean not pretend. When Steve McQueen was out riding bikes you just knew that he was able to do it. McQueen was a real man not a steriod freak running around in plastic suits pretending to be a super hero.
1
Bond would always win.
1
What way do the Scots and Irish pronounce it?
1
Bond is not a Muay Thai fighter. He is a member of the british intelligence services with military experience. Not a part time DJ with one Muay Thai fight.
1
Whey would have done mail order in the 1990s for VHS. I also suspect there would have not been an overreaction in the 1990s like today.
1
@thomasfoster1181 I have more than several months worth of books to read.
1
@die4race Back in the 1990s you could buy classics for less than a dollar.
1
The only real Bonds were Connery, George Lazenby and Moore. They were the real deal.
1
@ascendantanimism The difference with the likes of Connery and Moore was that they came across as the real deal. You could tell that they could be dangerous men if the switch was to go.
1
He gives it his all. It is not his fault that the last Bond movie was dull. The only true bond actors were Moore, Connery and George Lazenby. Who all did military service and were the real deal. The best actors to never play bond were Christopher Lee, David Niven and Michael Caine who all had strong military service.
1
@carloroca1531 Niven would have been too old in the 1960s to play the role.
1
@smooothskiiin4923 Real men do not talk like that. DO you want to try again.
1
@gregorsamsa2271 Sorry but most of the Bond actors to include Craig did not do their own stunts and used stuntmen or even CGI. That is a redicolous claim to hold against actors playing the role. Bond is a character and you do not get the feel that Craig has that authority about him. More most certainly carried him self as someone who was capable.
1
He was the real deal like Moore.
1
Bond in the books was a good guy but was a real fighter as well. Hence why he was a killer. He was not a psychopath. The only real Bonds were Connery, Moore and George Lazenby.
1
The moment that Connery kills somebody is the moment it did it for me. Connery was the real deal who did his military service.
1
rockn roll People are free to leave a job. The military is not a job it is a service.
1
rockn roll You can leave any job you desire. They do not lock you in the brig for leaving a job. You are confusing work rights with military service. Military service has legal requirements not simple employment contract requirements.
1
@FireMrshlBill But Craig is nothing like Bond from the books. He does not come across as a physical man at all. Even George Lazenby has more presence as Bond than Craig. In the modern context Craig looks better than Brosnan.
1
@FireMrshlBill Both Moore and Lazenby served in the military. You could tell in the way they carried them self. Craig has none of that. His muscled look does not really carry it at all and it does not come across as natural either.
1
@FireMrshlBill Casino Royal and Skyfall are good entertaining films. But that does not change the fact that Craig is not as good as Lazenby or Moore as Bond. Bond is suppose to be charming on the surface and a dangerous killer underneath that (but he is not a psychopath). Craig does not come across as authentic as the killer part. I could imagine Moore or Lazenby lifting a weapon going to war I cannot imagine Craig doing that.
1
@FireMrshlBill Moore was a 6 foot tall former army captain. Other Bond actors were 5 foot 8 inches and on steroids.
1
@FireMrshlBill You will believe anything if you think the difference was 3 inches. He is about 5 foot 8 inches tall.
1
@MrOliverbox Moore was a former army captain. From that era military operatives were athletic and not muscular build. He more than likely was not 150 pounds when he filmed Bond. He is not a modern steroid freak he has a natural build and would have been consider fit.
