  1. That is not the reason why people wore wigs in ancient times or how it made its way to modern times. Wigs were worn as a sign of prestige. Only the wealthiest could wear wigs and read books. Many nobles did not wear wigs because they did not need the prestige since they were nobles. Do not confuse the style movements of wearing wigs with the aristocratic reason for wearing wigs.
