  1. They are going to colonize the whole region of eastern Europe. Next move they will start to lay claim that other part of of Europe are really Russian regions. This will not elicit a massive response from the west and bring arms into all surrounding countries on a scale Russia probably was not expecting.

  2. They are hoping that this is a limited incursion and that the Russians stop at some point. I feel at some point they will realize that it is not limited and they have a decision to make.

  3. The stuff the US left in Afghanistan was a fraction of what they really have. Places like Taiwan have about hundred thousands missiles that can be used for air defence and naval defence.

  4. They are saving the sanctions for later but even then they will probably not work. Russia has decided to pay the price for this economically.
