Comments by "bighand69" (@bighands69) on "Defence review to reveal new special ops force" video.
The real name for the program is Army Special Operations Brigade. Right now they are calling the individual battalions Rangers. At some point British Navy is probably going to form their own Special Operations Command to compete with the Army which will include Commandos and probably special dive teams. What they should have called the special operations battalions is Army Commando battalions. I to would have saved them so much effort and confusion.

The Red Uniform were the most elite fighting force of their day. They were capable of operating overseas in small numbers to defeat forces of a much larger size. Only the US was capable of defeating the British in warfare because the US used the British method but they adapted it to their own strengths.

They are nothing like the SAS who are an elite specialized force.

They will do a similar job but are not exactly the same thing. UK already has forces that do a similar job and what they are doing now is putting that under one system called Army Special Operations Brigade.

Drones are extremely hard to see especially in a combat zone. A drone that is at 500 feet will be very hard to spot in the sky especially if it is static. It is one of the reasons why they have been so deadly in Ukraine.

@Blob B SAS were formed out of Special Service Brigade which were the commandos. The Royal Marines and Para were the assault brigades of the Commandos. The special boat teams were formed out of Commandos as well.
1
They have a different role from those groups.

@Cole Trickle It is not that the US copied the name army ranger. US as a culture developed over hundreds of years with rangers being part of that culture. Neither side can be accused of copying the the name.

SA 80 is better than anything the enemy has.

@johnsullivan3444 UK already spends 5 times as much on the welfare state than it does on its military force. Every day the Russians are constantly testing UK airspace and UK response times to try and establish if theirs are differences. NHS has no shortage of money so that cannot be blamed on its issues. Even in hospitals were there are enough nurses employed they will still have shift shortages due to bad management. NHS has to evolve and that is where the issue exists not how much is spent on defence.

Please tell us how would anybody take out all the satellites. I think too many people are playing too many video games.
1
They are not the same as US Rangers and are more inline with US Army Special Forces.
1
@scottwhitley3392 Why not cut expenditure for the welfare state.
1
They should have been called Army Commandos.
1
@Ty-qv3ml Not even close. SAS are a highly specialized force that are different to anything else in the world. They are a one trick pony and cannot be used like Commandos or Para. So if the UK want to take out an airfield or infantry defended position they would never send the SAS who simply would not have the numbers.

The way to defend against nukes is to build an air defence system that actually uses nukes to destroy income missiles. A group of nuclear weapons that are used for airburst could cover a hundred thousand square miles of space.
1
What about SEALs?
1
@closethedoornow7538 It would only sound that way to somebody who is not aware of British culture.
1
UK defence forces already has within its regiments elite teams that do different specialized roles such as signal warfare, demolitions, recon an so on.

Britain is an Island and everything it does has to be about projecting power as an Island. For the last few hundreds years this has been their doctrine with a smaller force that is more elite than their opposition and able to operate far beyond their shores on their own.
1
To go up against enemies that would destroy the UK.
1
Nope they are not nothing like US Rangers. The only comparison is the name ranger. They are closer to US Army Special Forces.
1
@gorillaguerillaDK Britain is an Island and has always projected force through small elite brigades that can function independently throughout the world.
