The US realized in WW2 that it would cost the lives of 250,000 US marines, require several thousand aircraft, hundreds of naval ships and constant bombardment to dislodge 30,000 Japanese troops. Today Taiwan is much better armed, better trained and has far more resources. The US had already carried out D Day and several other invasions in the pacific so they were experts at it and China are not.

  4. Not just that the US Navy could easily ship in supplies and there is nothing China can do about it without engaging in major war with the US. The US could sink their whole fleet and leave their southern coasts undefended.

  5. Taiwan is one of the most heavily defended places on earth. There is only four genuine places that an invasion can take place in Taiwan and they are narrow killing zones that most militaries would struggle to land on never mind take. Trying to land 2 million troops there would create a naval backlog that would stretch to the Chinese coast lines. Taiwan also has tens of thousands of missiles designed specifically to target naval ships.

  6.  @FUTUBEFLAGS  It is not entirely true that they can invade on those two months only but they are the best months and offer higher success rates. But even with that China does not have a military force that can capture Taiwan.

  7.  @samthesuspect  The US can do without Taiwan chips but it will not allow China to take Taiwan because that would allow the Chinese Navy to project out further into the pacific. Taiwan is a heavily guarded state that could easily fend of Taiwan.

They clearly did not want to spread panic so they were not screaming about it forms the roof tops. If the Pentagon comes out now and says China is going to invade it may mean that there then is no opportunity for peaceful solutions so they have to try.

  14. TSMC is not the reason the US will help Taiwan. The real reason is that the US understands that keeping Taiwan in place helps to contain Chinese Naval projection.

  17. US will supply Taiwan with goods, products and food. Taiwan can actually defend it self and will do so. Taiwan is hundreds of times more powerful than Ukraine and it is an island. The US in WW2 realized that it would cost the lives of 250,000 marine, require several hundred ships 20000 attack aircraft and constant bombardment for months just to dislodge 30,000 poorly armed Japanese. Taiwan has 250,000 professional troops, 500000 trained reserves, 400 fighter aircraft, tens of thousands of missiles and coastal landing sites that are some of the most defended on planet earth. It took 300,000 allies to make D day landings and that was a sea crossing of about 20 miles were as Taiwan is about 100 miles.
