  5. Edmund Burke was Irish and was educated in Ireland. His family was mixed one side being catholic the other being Protestant. He was persecuted for his Irish catholic heritage and would actively present himself as Protestant. He seen first hand what penal law in ireland did to certain peoples. This must have heavily shaped his world view.

Cuba tried to put nuclear missiles in as a threat to the US and it got a response but it was never actually invaded. And that was a far bigger risk to the US at the time than the Ukraine is to Russia.

  18. They are not liberals. Tories today do have members that are liberal and they have been able to operate as a swing vote in the party. From right now that swing is gone. Low taxes, economic growth and national identity can drive the Conservative party to a new era. The next 5 years could set up the UK to be a world leader and for the lives of the population to be much better.

  22.  @mididoctors  I guess you have never lived in a social housing era. If you did you would never promote it. I grew up a council estate and it was a hell hole. Most people who live in social housing do not value the house and many will be stuck on welfare and will never strive to be raised out of the estate. I was the only person in my class at school that went to university and got out of the hell hole estate.

  23.  Paul Gavin  It would depend on the mood of the country when such a constitution would be formed. Right now it would be taken over by the left. In 3 years of 15 years time it maybe a different story. There has to be a philosophy behind such a constitution and luckily one already exists. In common law and jurisprudence.

  25.  @BillSikes.  But it is not chess that is being played it is an economic war and also a war involve real violence and force. Russia has a population of 140 million NATO is over 1 billion. Even if China gets involved their numbers are not going to make much of a difference to the battle. If Europe finds an alternative to Russian energy that might be the one thing that Russia really loses out on an China simply will not be a replacement for that market place.

  27.  @danielbones3072  I am not going to name companies but TV media in the UK is dominated by the left. The main TV news outlets are dominated by left wing politics. Print media has you have pointed out still has a balance to it. Most people are shaped by tv and the news they see on that platform and the tv shows that they watch that then parrot and sometimes they lead on ideas.

  30. But how is Putin going to dismantle NATO. It is not like the west is going to just give up and say it is over. There is now also a chance that the EU may build a defence system that would make it very hard to displace. Putin might be right about Russia having more nuclear weapons than France but when you combine it with the UK Nuclear stockpile all of a Sudden they can destroy Russia as well as the other way round.
