Avenatti may not have done anything illegal but he is out of his depth legally. He probably also was a little bit cocky because he is at the centre of the me too movement and even gave speeches to crowds. When it comes to large giant corporations they do not want to have to deal with the PR of activists but when it actually comes to their own finances they are super protective. In other words they will allow activism but not legal threats on their finances.
