Train passenger transport in the US is only viable between close states or close cities. Otherwise people are flying. It would be very uneconomical to travel by train from La to New York.

US shipping is the best in the world. The US has a river network that allows cargo to travel that no other country on earth has.

@Parker307 It makes perfect sense if you understand fiance, economics and scale. A person travelling on a rail journey from New York to LA is very expensive. A freight train can do it because of the large volume of good but you will find that most of LA goods are brought in by cargo ship and then rail on the east coast.

@Aerrow62 "Not many people actually travel from LA to NY compared to LA - SFO" My point is that train only works on reasonable distances. There is already a train from LA to San Francisco and that has nothing to do with the US.

@Aerrow62 The distance between LA and New York is further than the distance from New York to Ireland. When it comes to long distance travel in the US for passengers only air journeys are suffice. Between two cities where the distance is 100 miles rail is the best option.

@darklazerx7913 A train journey from New York to Boston takes about 3 to 5 hours and that journey makes sense. But from Boston to Miami it takes a day and a half which is not realistic unless you are on a train journey holiday. People in Europe do not take trains from Rome to Oslo they normally will take a flight unless their intention is some sort of european train travel Holiday but guess what most of that journey is not going to be high speed rail.

@jmd1743 Not sure what you are talking about exactly. Rail in America for passenger journeys is only really suitable within a state or travelling to states that are in close proximity. There is just no getting around that fact. A train journey from LA to New York takes 4 days if you can somehow get all the connections to perfectly line up and you travel for that whole period on a train. It takes 6 hours on a flight from New York to LA.
