  5. In european countries it costs about 1 million per person for healthcare through out their life time. The US keeps their costs up front and you get to see what they are. It is the reason why it only takes about 12 weeks in the US to get an MS preliminary but in the UK it takes about 2 years.

  6.  @andysantian1175  The median income in the US is $60,000 and a family would be liable for 12% taxation on that amount. In most european countries it would be near to 45% taxation liabilities. A family in most european countries are going to give away about half their income and in the US it would be about 15% of their income. So while you maybe under the impression that it costs $1000 per month you are mistaken. And on top of that people in the US have the ability to put their taxable income into special accounts to build up investments and not face taxes on it. Hence it is the reason the median retirement income in the US is $70000 per year.

People in EU countries pay far more taxes and do not have US levels of living. 10% of Americans are not covered by health insurance get covered by public health insurance. All over elderly get covered by public insurance. The other 90% have health insurance that allows them to get treated in the best hospitals in the world. I doubt that your professor actually worked as a surgeon in the US as only people who have attended US medical schools can practice medicine in the US.

  11.  @Brozius2512  That $11000 figure you quoting for the US also includes drug expenditures by the public but what you do not understand is that the UK gets cheap drugs from the US which are supplemented by the US healthcare industry. The US gets all the cost of research and implementation while European countries get a below market cost. And then to top it all off the US defends european countries while they all do not even spend money on their defences. Socialized healthcare sounds great when American is subsidizing it for them.

The US for example allows you to take a certain proportion of your taxable income and put it into retirement. Hence why the median retirement fund in the US is $1.5 million. European countries just rob their people and pretend they are helping them all while the US pays for their defence.

Median American income is twice that of the UK. Median US retirement fund is 1.5 million with the median retirement income being $70,000 per year. You want to know how Americans do that they pay less taxes and get to keep more of their income. I am sorry you do not know this.

  23. In the UK nobody actually knows what it costs because it is hidden behind government walls and it is the reason taxes are so high in the UK. One in five people in the UK are functionally illiterate and are stuck in government housing system with absolutely no career opportunities. It is the same in every european country. 50% of under 25's in Spain are unemployed with no career outlook. Free healthcare sounds great until you realize what the real cost is.

British people have half the income of US median workers and pay four times as much taxation on median US income levels. Cars are almost half the price in the US than they are in the UK, Houses are 4 times larger but are also cheaper on average. The true cost of your inhaler in the UK would be a lot more than in the US. What many of you do not understand is that the cost is up front in the US and you will not be paying it for the rest of your life. What you get in America is real costs not hidden in government budgets.

  30.  @biovatingmajor  Since we are only basing this on income taxes and excluding VAT ( not applied in America). A person who earns $60000 a year in America at a basic level would take home about $51000 per year. The exact same level of pay in the UK is going to take home about $45000 per year. At a beginning point that is about $6000 per year of a difference. Once you factor in other taxes it become a lot lower. Also products are much cheaper in the US due to low level of taxes hence why cars are cheaper in the US.

Many people in Europe travel to the US for treatments that are not available in Europe and they have to pay for those treatments. One of the main difference is that in the US there are treatments that are not covered by insurance or public insurance. Cancer survival is higher in the US due to the wide array of treatments that are available rapidly in the US. The market economy in the US is far better at healthcare than Europe which can actually be seen in medicines in Europe that are based on US research and US licenses. If the US used the european model most of these treatments and drugs would not be available.
