What you lack in your understanding that he is trying to get across is that the gates are no controlled by a few large corporations. In the days of movies it was many production houses, distributors and there was even divisions within the big studios that had their own budgets and decision making. Today films are made by politically sensitive committees. There is still lots of creativity out there but it is being gated and controlled by large corporations.

It was several things that destroyed the industry. The movie committees in corporations and the move away from film in cinema to digital. A 35mm celluloid shown on a projector has a resolution of about 8k and colors that no digital system can even come close to. Digital looks horrible playing horrible films is a reason why the industry is in a tail spin.

@pahwraith You are not making movies you are making video's and pretending they are movies. Movies are shot on film and digital is just video.

He is talking about all the VOD services.

Youtube tried to get into the content and movie business but failed. Netflix, apple and Amazon are the major players. Warner and Paramount are now trying to get into the game a well. There is Disney now as well.

They are not movies. They are video's. To make a movie it has to be done on a film camera at 24 fps.

David Mamet is 74 years of age.

The vast majority of people do not want to watch Mickey Mouse and CGI steroid freaks. It is the fundamental reason why most people stay away from the cinema.

Digital Camera's are horrible and there is ocean of photos that nobody even knows they have because they forget about them as they have so many of them.

No that is not even close to being true. Digital systems on phones with a camera ended Kodak as a company. Sending photos by phone because more popular.

@alvareo92 Does Spielberg and Scorsese shoot on digital?

@pahwraith When it comes to movies in the cinema 35mm film and 70mm film has no rivals. Digital is nowhere near the quality of film.

@pahwraith The Irishman was a good bit of entertainment but it was not a great movie and one of Scorsese worse movies. The grossery shop beating was one of the worse scenes in history. It was like an old man trying to kick a plastic bag.

@dannynysus It is really important to read what you wrote and I did not do that. I mean to say that the gates are being controlled by a few corporations. It was a typo by myself to say no. Hollywood films today are being controlled more so than in the past at a creative level. With many productions being made by committee.

@jonathangarlinghouse Netflix is now producing trash. They have not produced any good series in several years.
