  3. when somebody - with hindsight - doesn't face up to their responsibility and simultaneously maintains a flacid upper lip about 'being in the right' and 'making the right call' (whether they are under oath or regardless) then you have to wonder why the front they're putting up continues. imho it is (admittedly retrospectively) very basic: 1. downing street didn't treat covid with the appropriate level of seriousness. cavalier would be one starting point. blasé another. 2. downing street were too clever by half with their communications (and brexit had already been delivered) 3. downing street engaged in double standards (party inside and lockdown out) - 'do as we say, not as we do' ethos adopted a level of paternalism that still stinks as unpalatable 4. downing street adopted a condescending and insulting attitude in their approach to the public during covid 5. downing street during covid was more about the struggle for power than the responsible exercise of power 6. downing street were caught between the woods of failing to act decisively on the big picture calls and misunderstanding or not understanding the trees of detail (at least in comms terms) and henceforth blundering ineptitude was the hallmark of decisionmaking competence 7. covid placed downing street on the backfoot as the triumphalist ego of brexit was checked 8. covid exposed downing street as a cabinet of incompetent fakin' it fraudsters, out of their depth, inappropriately placed (given scale) and out of touch with reality when it was needed 9. downing street fudged it as c.232,000 died
