The Belarus leader, for one, looked particularly uncomfortable on May 9. sad as it may sound, in simple terms, maybe the entire raison d'etre of the Putin power era (2000 - ) comes down to the Donbas and whether or not that area should effectively be another oblast of Kremlin authority under the control of the Russian Federation (as opposed to Kyiv, Ukraine). if Russia were to withdraw from Crimea and Ukraine were to accept some sort of status for the Donbas then maybe the beginning of a process for negotiation could emerge. Of course that would not happen with the current Kremlin leadership. On it goes...
