Good to see that someone thought it quite the wheeze that they could avoid FOI requests. Really inspires confidence that!

WhatsApp messages are locally stored on the device. Lose your phone, the messages are also lost. BUT, not if you turn on the auto-backup function. All messages are then copied into the cloud, or servers as it used to be called. I'd hope a politician/ their team would know this. Wherever they're stored, once deleted they're gone. As they are encrypted finding the messages on WhatsApp servers won't help. WhatsApp could be asked to unencrypt them, but usually refuses. In the US the government now has access to WhatsApp messages. Regardless of all of that politicians shouldn't be/ be advised to delete messages.

@PorthLlwyd As others have commented that isn't the issue. Please scroll up and read the thread, context is very important. To respond to your question directly, in a similar manner to how it was asked: Yes. While a politician is working, they should wear a bodycam at all times and no politician should have access to that audiovisual data. If they can't be trusted to be professional politicians whilst supposedly working for us, then they should be treated like children. Take care 🤠💜
