Years ago, young school kids carried out a successful phishing attack on their school's network by emailing their teachers, pretending to be IT and asking for their passwords! Fortunately they just wanted to play Worm, or some such rather than bring Lord of the Flies to the 21st century. 🍿🍿

@TheRisingJoe I thought you were being satirical, what with your comments about them being hard to close down, pause, etc 😆 Also Mr Parrish did accidentally look at p0rn in The HoC... the first time!! 💪🚜 PS: If you are being serious, watch this video again. Any ban, etc won't work.

@redmed10 You're correct. Most kids will already be aware of VPNs and if they're not, they soon will be. Internet searches for VPN has already massively spiked - which I seem to recall Ava mentions in this video. That's the most obvious and straightforward workaround. I've had one experience with The Online Safety Act so far and that was on Twitter. Presumably (from context) it was a photo of dead foxes/ fox hounds. I've heard Wikipedia's also likely to be effected. For people who for one reason, or another will be effected it's a sledgehammer to a hazelnut. It's a Tory bill that New Nu-Labour could repeal, but won't and does little, if anything to address safety. Some sex workers are concerned about their incomes and safety too.

@TheRisingJoe Restricting some access for some people might be appropriate, sometimes. No need to apologise for your wording 🙂 I honestly wasn't sure and appreciate your clarification. If you get sent links for those sites so often, it confuses me why you'd keep clicking the links/ opening the attachments? That said The Online Safety Act is next to useless and causes harm itself. Most kids know more about tech than adults. Most kids will know about VPNs and the internet searches for 'VPN' has sky rocketed. Access to all sorts of information is being restricted. Even The Great Wall of China has massive holes in it. I don't want harm to come to children, or anyone and this government should already know that this isn't going to work.

@TheRisingJoe Whichever VPN people use your data is likely going to end up in other places/ everywhere. One of the most important internet rules is: If you don't want it broadcast online, don't put into a PC, tablet, phone, etc, etc. A few children won't access VPNs once they hear about them. Many more, will now know about them and that decreases their safety as a group and probably as individuals. The more kids have VPNs, the more that will feel even more anonymous and go to sites they wouldn't have done without one. You could ban the sites and they'll just host in countries that couldn't care less about such things. Banning the internet for anyone won't work. This is a symptom of wider societal issues and won't do much to reduce those, let alone look at the causes. If you don't know where a link will take you, please don't click on it - apart from sites you object to, it's a good way to download viruses, malware, etc.
